| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jun 19, 2005 Bottle conditioned. Powerful aroma of roasted malts coffee ice cream with undertones of chocolate. Completely opaque black with a thin coffee colored head. The first sip had me smiling like an idiot. Starts with a roasted flavor moving swiftly into very Fuggles-characteristic bitterness. Fades beautifully into strong dark mocha malts and a lingering touch hops. Masterfully crafted and delicious all the way. Too bad there was only one bottle left at the store or I’d drink this every night. GreatStelle (360), Chico, California, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 17, 2004 A very good stout. This rates up near the top in best stouts available. I was very nervous about the price ($5.00 a bottle) but it was well worth it. Loved the burnt smokey flavor. The chocolate and coffee were not over done. Just a perfect well rounded stout. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 11, 2004 500 ml bottle conditioned real ale. Enormous thick tan head. Pitch black colour, even when held to the light. Very possibly the darkest beer in the world. Wonderful aroma of roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate, oak and cedarwood. Flavour is all smoked and heavily roasted malts and oats. A world class stout. brewbear (48), 3096 Oberbalm, Switzerland

Ok, Freeminer rocks. It's so obvious these guys are masters. A world class IPA and a world class stout. How often does one brewery pull off two totally different styles with this kind of precision? Sure, I would prefer a tiny bit less citrus in the aroma (I'm still undecided about Fuggles overall...as with Cascades, it sometimes works for me, sometimes doesn't), but otherwise the aroma is unbelievable, and packed with subtleties. Virtually an Imperial Stout it's so rich, complex, and thick. Roasted to perfection. The mouthfeel is to die for. Best as it approaches room temp. I could go on and on. A little less Fuggles influence, and this would be 5.0, seriously. But then, this was bottled only two months ago. Laying these down for 6-12 months to let the hops mellow and the yeast do their magic should make this a solid 5.0. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 21, 2003 Updated: Jan 22, 2003Pours completely opaque. Caramel colored ring of lace. Hugely fruity and roasty nose. Lots of subtle character awaits the olfactory with coffee, cocoa, jellyish oats, molasses, and a bit of polish. Beautiful softly carbonated palate. Slight acidic tinge. Intense roasted malt complexities abound the palate, as does rich homemade chocolate fudge and baker's chocolate. Finishes long with loads of coffee, oatiness, and a hint of tar. Extremely complex. This is borderline Imperial Stout material. How is this not a top 50? probably the best "stout" on which I have ever feasted.
