Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Aug 13, 2006 Bottle ... a brand I’d never seen before! Awesome. Anyway, this bottle conditioned 6% beer was all that it promised. It poured with a volcanic head, big and poofy, over a deep, opaque amber beer. Highly active. Bit of sourness in nose and flavor. Tart and grassy hoppiness, but mellow and well balanced. I feel like I’m digging into a museum for the origin of the style. Excellent. brewbear (48), 3096 Oberbalm, Switzerland Dec 30, 2002 The mother of good IPAs
Nice color, hoppy smell, nice body, and a strong lasting aftertaste from Goldings hops. Don’t frink it cold!!!!! It’s British!!! ALLOVATE (1108), Perth, Australia Jan 17, 2005 Updated: Jul 13, 2005This one came highly recommended from the boys at the Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leedervillle, W.A., so I thought I might have to try it!. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a tall tulip, cool and not cold, it slowly developed a short, dense off-white head, atop a brilliant deep bronze body. The fine carbonation held the head in it’s place and left rings down the glass. The wonderful and generous aroma hit straight away, reminiscent of tropical fruit, sweet & sour sauce, spices, toffee and a little burnt grain. In the mouth it was a little more subdued than I had expected, but balanced to perfection and smooth as silk. The body was full and well rounded flavours worked wonders on my taste buds. Pears apricots and fresh coriander, honey and caramelised sugar. Lovely and floral throughout with a long bitter hop swallow. Not an exact reproduction of an IPA, but a wonderful and highly sessionable beer without classification. Big palate, light carbonation, and very clean throughout. A winner!!! gws57 (988), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Sep 12, 2007 Found this one bottled in St. Charles, Illinois. A wonderful example of the direction an IPA can go, if the brewers decide not to hop bomb it. Clear, champagne bubbly light copper pour with a thin, off white head, a nice nose of citrusy hops, violets and apple cider, the cidery notes work into the body of the beer, with lots of floral hops but very balanced and not overpowering. Not terribly bitter, it is actually quite sweet for a pale. Finishes strong and very clean, and tapers to a really nice delicious apple aftertaste. One of the best IPAs I’ve had in a long time.
