Clear Quarter Gallon Growler purchased at Whole Foods in Portland, Maine. Pours a slightly hazy amber-brown body with nearly an inch of light tan head that slowly dissipates. Smells sweet and malty with some chocolate notes and a fair bit of nut. Tastes nutty with slight dark choclate and coffee notes, a fair bit of nut/peanut, a pleasing undertone of butter, coffee grounds, and just a tinge of tobacco-like hops. On the lighter side of medium-bodied with low to moderate carbonation. Overall a solid sessionable brown ale. The butter could afford to be dialed back just a tad, but it doesn’t hurt anything much. Overall a good brown - looking forward to trying more from these guys.

5/29/2008: Brown Hound is kind of a diacetyl disaster. It is light brown in color and has a buttery aroma and a buttered toast flavor. It is light-body and fizzy. Avoid this beer!

1 pt 6 fl oz bottle. Rating #22 for this beer.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium/large beige head that has good retention. The aroma has a slightly nutty, roasted malt nose that has moderate sweetness and a little fruit. The flavor is rather sweet, slightly fruity, acidic, and some off flavors. Light/medium bodied and definetly forgetable.

Growler 08’. Deep brown pour with a deep frothy head. Nut and malt, bittering hops and biscuit. Nothing fantastic.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured a clear dark brown color with a large off-white frothy head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Medium toasted nutty malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of average duration. Interesting label.

Brown color, with a small beige head, toasty, grainy, malty nose, with brown sugar and nuttiness, a faint floral hop aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with malty, grainy, faint biscuity character, with a caramelized nutty accent, with a hint flowery leafiness, leading towards a malty, subtle fruity, hop bittering finish. Very not much to say about this one!
