Commercial Description:
French Broad Brewery’s interpretation of the classic UK Extra Special Bitter. A bright copper color with a complex malt palate is complemented by traditional British hops, notably East Kent Golding. French Broad has made this classic public house session beer a cult classic with its skull and crossbones artwork.

A copper colored beer with a moderate white head. The aroma is malty with some citrus showing through mainly oranges and a bit of perfume. The flavor starts a bit malty with some caramel flavors. The bitterness begins to show up with some orange and grapefruit flavors. A nice session beer.

Nice malty flavor with some bitter hops at the end. Finish was a little flat. All in all, a very standard, but very enjoyable ESB, especially considering where it came from. A good session brew.

on tap-pours a foamy to rocky off white head that laces and gold color. Aroma is medium malt, secondary flat English hops. Taste is medium malt-some sweet, secondary flat English hops. OK effervescence.

I put my thang in this one. Swilred it around. tasted it. Thought it was about as drinkable as a drink gets and then decided that I probably won’t ever drink it again. But it won’t bad.

Draft at the Durham World Beer Festival. Clear gold with a small white head. Nice biscuity nose and flavor, malty, spicy hops. Solid.

On tap at Barley’s. Creamy off-white head with moderate retention on top of a caramel-colored body. It had a slightly biscuity malt aroma with some crisp hops. The flavor was nice and malty with plenty of herbal hops to back it up, especially in the finish. Very tasty!
