Commercial Description:
French Broad Brewery’s interpretation of the classic UK Extra Special Bitter. A bright copper color with a complex malt palate is complemented by traditional British hops, notably East Kent Golding. French Broad has made this classic public house session beer a cult classic with its skull and crossbones artwork.

Bottle thanks to decaturstevo. Nose has a vinegar hint at first that quickly fades end English malts come through. Pours a golden brown with almost no head. Flavors for English malts, and hints of toffee. Mouth is dry and a full mouth bitter.

At World Beer Festival in Raleigh NC this ESB poured a hazy yellow with an foamy off white head. Biscuity aroma with some peach, caramel and also some sweetness. Tastes very bready with malt flavor as well. Okay brew. Could work on a hot day sitting around in need of something cold and refreshing?

Comes out of the bottle a clear coppery amber with a decent but not very persistent light tan head. Aroma is mainly malty with a good hoppy undertone and just a hint of apples and yeast. Flavor is malty with a good bitter undertone, not complex but still satisfactory. Texture is fairly smooth and a little fizzy. Not too shabby.

Bottle poured an off-white head that barely laced. Amber body. Aroma is biscuit, some bitter hops, and a little cardboard. Tastes like the aroma. Some bitterness on the palate.

Medium amber color. The aroma is slightly musky hops over caramel or nutty malts. Nicely malty flavor.
