A batch of dunkelweizen was brewed and added to the last of the Laurel Country White left in the tank to meld the idea of the German and Belgian beers.

Draft at Federal in Durham. Dark brown but I can see a bit of light through. Very chocolatey in the aroma department. Flavor is also dominated by chocolate but there’s a pleasant citrusy finish as well. Succeeds in being rich and chocolatey while still holding onto some witbier characteristics.

Dunkel-WHAT!! Had this beer not long ago @ the tasting room. The aroma is very friuty w\ spicy alcohol notes. It pours dark caramely w\ a creamy off-white head. it tastes nutty with subtle hints of a belgian white. Very light on the palate making it a thirst quencher. A nicely crafted, innovative beer. Thanks guys!

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body encircled by a ring of beige-colored bubbles. Smell: It’s a hybrid! Alien scents of malted coriander, earthy brown sugar, sauteed fruits, yeast and dried citrus peel. Taste: Brown malts with nutty brown sugar and a mild sweetness. Molasses-coated coriander. Hint of fruit. Some spicy, citrusy hints. Not much bitterness. A malty, mangled finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A nice idea, but, in all honesty, I’d rather just have either the white or the dunkel.

Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop Durham. Pours a deep red color with a small head. Grainy, bitter aroma with just a touch of fruitiness. Taste is pretty much straightforward malt... grainy and nutty. Just a tad bit of bitterness. Very nice.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramely malts and some bready yeast. Body starts fairly full and malty sweet with an authentic doughy German yeasty character. Finishes light sweet and nicely-balance. A good dunkelweizen.

Pours deep brown almost the same color as root beer with a small head, and below average lacing. Below average carbonation with a sweet smell of malts, mild hops and Belgium yeast. Tastes malty with a heavy yeast taste. Light on the pallet, this beer is not bad – but not great.

Draught at the WBF in Raleigh. Dark brown, off-white head. Nice aroma of yeast, spice and malt. Flavor is tasty as well, the yeast and spice make it more like a Belgian white, but the malt gives it a chocolate/roasty flavor. All in all, pretty good.
