Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop Durham. Pours a deep red color with a small head. Grainy, bitter aroma with just a touch of fruitiness. Taste is pretty much straightforward malt... grainy and nutty. Just a tad bit of bitterness. Very nice.

Dark brown colored body. Very faint nose, almost non-existent… some faint bread crust and Munich malt notes. Smooth and oily up front, some light toast, light Munich malt, some caramel malt, and some wheat chewiness in the finish. Simple.

This dunkel pours a dark brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized tan foamy head, with good retention. The aroma is mildly chocolate with some banana and yeast. A medium bodied dunkel. The malts are fruity and sweet with some chocolate and banana. The hops are slightly spicy and earthy. This beer starts off sweet and bready like a dunkel and finishes yeasty and fruity. Lively carbonation. A very drinkable dunkel. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and a touch dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

22oz bottle. Dark brown color with medium head. Aroma was of of caramel bananas, and light roasted malt. The taste was the same with light dark fruit and bananas in the finish. I really don’t know what this beer was trying to be, but it was fun to drink.

22 oz. bottle on 6/14/08. Pours out a deep ruby/brown with a light tan head, but only fair lace. Malt dominated aroma with caramel, toffee, and some dark fruit character. Medium body and generous carbonation, faint stickiness as the malts dominate the palate.

Fruity, caramel malt sweetness balanced by a very soft bitterness. There are hints of some spiciness in the aroma and flavors

Actually, this is somewhat of an unusual beer, as it has a fruity character and sweetness that seems more prominent than a typical German Dunkelweizen, yet certainly fits that category better than it would any other. It’s quite drinkable, and if your tastes lean to sweeter beers, this certainly tips the scales in that direction.
