Commercial Description:
While known for their lagers, German brewers also produce terrific ales. French Broad’s Kölsch is faithful to the great German ales found in Köln. Golden in color, with a refreshing crispness, pleasantly sweet malt finish, and distinctive German hopping.

22oz bottle. Pours clear, bright yellow color. Thin white head. Aroma of floral hops. Flavor of straw, dandelion flowers, crisp hop bitterness. Full flavored pils malts. Fruity finish. Very refreshing. Very good. Don’t think I’d drink it on a regular basis, very good per style.

Had this bottled. Man, I think there was something wrong with it. Light yellow with a one finger head. Nose and flavor are very off, funky, sour. I think I may have gotten a bad bottle.

good for what it is, but ive never been a Kolsch fan, so im kinda biased. clear gold with a thin dissipating head. aroma is of corn and cereal. flavor about the same, maybe a tiny bit of citrus. kinda blah, but oh well.

Would suggest this to anyone looking at a bud but longing for something a little more adventurous. Toasted grain, cereal, and caramel flavors. Light clear yellow color. On tap at the brewery.

clear pale gold under a small frothy white head. pleasant, relaxed, pale grainy aroma with the perfect touch of fruity hop. very light palate. pale, clean flavors balanced with slight hop bitterness. moderate carbonation makes this dangerously drinkable.

Appearance: Pours a clear, light yellow body with an inch of white foam that thins out almost instantly. Smell: Nose of sweetened grains and fragrant, floral Noble hop aromas. Taste: Light pale maltiness, lightly sweet, and with a slight hint of unrefined grain. Mild, indistinct fruitiness. Floral, even grassy hop character with a nice bite of Noble hop bitterness. Light touch of sweetened grains on the drying finish. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Easy-drinking and keenly refreshing -- just what I want from a Kölsch.

Not that I really have my head around this style (despite spending time in Cologne), but this was a pretty good kolsch. Thumbs up.
