Commercial Description:
While known for their lagers, German brewers also produce terrific ales. French Broad’s Kölsch is faithful to the great German ales found in Köln. Golden in color, with a refreshing crispness, pleasantly sweet malt finish, and distinctive German hopping.

For my last beer on my Asheville Beer Trip I had to crack something local and special. What better than one of my favorite styles from one of my favorite breweries. 22 ounce bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours a slightly hazy vibrant yellow colro with a large white head. Average head retention and good lacing. Very grainy aroma with some subtle grassy hops. Taste is grassy hops with a soft graininess. Medium bodied.

Bomber Pours clear lemon yellow with a tall, sticky white head. Saaz hops in the nose and the flavor. Softly balanced. First come the hops then the malt. Light, crisp and refreshing as a good Kölsch should be.

Crystal clear pale yellow with a grainy nose. Extremely grainy flavor but good example for style. Had a clean, diacetyl flavor. Husky finish. I thought this was their best offering the day I visited.

Sampled at Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. Poured a clear gold color with a small white head. Aroma of corn and malt. Flavor was malty, but not much hop backing.

KBjam. Clean golden pour with clean white head and lace. Aroma of corn and light malt. Corn and light malt with a good light bitter. Nice carbonation a tad thin. Really a pretty decent refreshing drinker.

A golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some lemons and grass. The flavor contains a bit of sourness with some lemons and a bit of spices. A rather malty presence. Overall a pretty nice beer.
