Commercial Description:
The Ryehopper is one of the latest seasonals from French Broad. The brewers noticed a lack of rye beers in the Asheville area and wanted to fill that gap. This beer represents assistant brewer Chris Richards’ first recipe released by the brewery. The malted rye contributes both a rounded nutty and a sharp malt flavor, bridging the maltiness of the barley and the bitterness of the hops. In essence, the Ryehopper is a hoppy rye beer. Seriously, what else did you expect?

toffee caramel with a stout tall white head. very small suspended sediment. dry aroma, some rye (i guess) on the nose. Strong with the rye, dense like 31 grain bread purchased from a shifty hippy at a farmer’s market. Good times.

Bottle via trade with decaturstevo. Pours a amber copper color with a spider web lacing cream head. Nose is full of rye, grain bread, sweet hops. Flavors follow, rye and tangy malt. Tea notes as well. Mouth is nicely carbonated, medium to long very dry finish. I dig this new to me style.

Pours a dark translucent copper with a one finger frothy offwhite head. The nose is spicy, citrusy, grapefruit rind, nice balancing sweetness. Flavor is smooth, medium waxy bitterness, citrusy, spicy rye, sweet, some estery flavors. Very low carbonation in the palate and mouthfeel, detracts from the perceived bitterness.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Greens Discount Beverage - Atlanta (Buford Hwy), 5/11/09

Aroma: Lots of rye, caramel, grass, nutty, citrus
Appearance: Really cloudy red brown color, creamy off-white head, decent lacing
Flavor: Dominated by the rye malts, with some hops filling in the mid to late palates
Palate: Nice mouthfeel, palate (like the taste) improves from start to finish
Overall Impression: Not a huge fan of the initial flavor, but it improves to be a solid rye beer in the middle and finish. More bitter then your standard rye.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with GAManiac. Pours the color of sherry with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first third of the glass and left considerable spotty lace. Pleasant aroma of rye grain, a bit of citrus, and a few notes of coffee, which surprised me. The flavor is again mostly rye grain followed by some fairly bitter grapefruit pith hops. A tad dry towards the finish as well. Nice solid beer.
