Commercial Description:
The Ryehopper is one of the latest seasonals from French Broad. The brewers noticed a lack of rye beers in the Asheville area and wanted to fill that gap. This beer represents assistant brewer Chris Richards’ first recipe released by the brewery. The malted rye contributes both a rounded nutty and a sharp malt flavor, bridging the maltiness of the barley and the bitterness of the hops. In essence, the Ryehopper is a hoppy rye beer. Seriously, what else did you expect?

22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with GAManiac. Pours the color of sherry with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first third of the glass and left considerable spotty lace. Pleasant aroma of rye grain, a bit of citrus, and a few notes of coffee, which surprised me. The flavor is again mostly rye grain followed by some fairly bitter grapefruit pith hops. A tad dry towards the finish as well. Nice solid beer.

Bottle at Andy’s tasting, I believe from Paul. Pours a clear amber with a light white head. Nice bright citrus hops and rye on the nose. Medium bodied with a good malty sweetness. Finishes with a good grapefruit bitterness and a touch of caramel.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head, hazed amber body with small particles. Aroma of coffee, rye, hops and a bit chalky. Taste is spicy and herbal with notes of coffee. Medium carbonation.

Bottle: Rusty brownish orange pour with a dense tan head. The aroma is a mix of dark bready rye malts, light citrus and resiny hop character- nice. Creamy body- nice bready lightly sweet background meshes with resiny bitterness. Light grapefruit notes are there as well leading to a piny lingering finish. Solid.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with off-white head. Aroma of some bubble gum and some malt. Flavor is fruity, hoppy, with nice small bitter. Mouth feel is medium body with high carbonation. Over all, not bad, easy drinking and tasty!

On tap at the brewery. Amber clear color. Piny resiny sticky hops are pretty nice. Very impressed with the french broad guys as they can make a wide range of very drinkable and enjoyable beers.

tap @ TacoMac, John’s Creek. Pours cloudy copper brown, light tan rocky head. Looks fresh. Tastes fresh. Aroma is a sweet caramel, nice rye, lots of malts in the nose. Nice scent of citrus and pine hops. Flavor has a nutty malt character, sharp and bold. very full flavored. Kinda what i expect in a rye ale (thanks to spike). Nice toasted notes. Then there are th hops. Yum. superb bitterness. lots of earthy bitterness from the abundance of hops. If this beer could be oaked... wow.
