Commercial Description:
The Ryehopper began as a fall seasonal and has now found it’s way into our regular line-up. The brewers noticed a lack of rye beers in the Asheville area and wanted to fill that gap. This beer represents assistant brewer Chris Richards’ first recipe released by the brewery. The malted rye contributes both a rounded maltines and a sharp earthy flavor, bridging the maltiness of the barley and the bitterness of the hops. In essence, the Ryehopper is a hoppy rye beer. Seriously, what else did you expect?

Bottle... O’sS&BS-I-T-YVBThrowdown... Lightly hazy orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. Fuzzy fruit and spicy rye aroma with a hint of lactic acid. Medium-bodied with a coarse mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Spicy rye and medium to heavy hop bitterness. Lengthy, bitter, astringent, dry finish. Kudos to dchmela for sharing his bottle at the Throwdown!

Draft sample at KBJ08. Poured clear copper color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate rye & citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met and I hope this was not a one off.

Bottle from Cindirene’s. Pours dark copper/straw colored with clingy off-white head. Nose is malty, hoppy, with that yeasty spicy house character that seems to be present in all FB beers. The flavor had earthy rye malty notes, with subdued hops, late florals and spicy notes, and a bitterness that took over in the last half of the bottle.

Sampled at Noogfest High 5. The body was a cloudy light orange. The aroma was the obvious rye with some grapefruit hops. There was also a nice mellow bread crust note. The taste was largely grapefruit with some bread crust and a little bit of spice in the finish. Good stuff.
