Jul 15, 2007 on tap @HopfestNC-pours a big creamy retaining light tan head and copper color. Aroma is doughy malt. Taste is doughy medium malt, yeasty, faint hops.

Oct 25, 2007 Draft at Tyler’s in Durham, NC. Poured a clear copper color. Head was thin and off white. Aroma was of light brown sugar. Delicately sweet on the tongue with malty toffee, subdued brown sugar, and a hint of chocolate brownie and assorted fruits. I also detected a bit of caramel in the finish. There was a detracting hint of adhesive tape in the aroma and flavor, but overall this was a decent beer.

Dec 24, 2002 A kind of roasted nut aroma, and a rich palate. Big Malty finish.
Y’know, this brewery recently added "River" to their name, which although technically correct, is a lot less fun. I liked the idea of a brewery run by French Broads, and the place looking like the Moulon Rouge and the Broads doin’ Can-Can dancing and what not.

Jun 25, 2007 Sample at Tyler’s, Durham. Rusty color with minimal head, this has some very floral characteristics to start with bready malts at the back. Nice and chewy, a bit of caramel. Not bad but probably nothing I’d seek out again.

Oct 31, 2004 brown and kind of sweet. a little thick for a regular bock, but it does work. bocks are something that i dont really understand, because usually they just taste like beer. dopplebocks are way more complex, but i dont understand the point in a bock. ah well, it was still a drinkable beer. sampled at brewgrass 04 on draught.

Jun 26, 2007 On draught at Speakeasy. Pours a brownish amber with no head at all. No lacing either. Nose is full of malts and berries. Flavor is full of a nutty maltiness, more berries (blackberry, raspberry especially), a little caramel. The german malt profiles are very different and interesting. Nothing amazing, but pretty good.

May 14, 2007 On tap at Fishmongers in Durham, NC. Dark reddish brown color with a thin white head. Some cherry and caramel hints on top of a grainy aroma. There’s a little bit of chocolate malt and caramel taste in this one. Some apple juice.
