Y’know, this brewery recently added "River" to their name, which although technically correct, is a lot less fun. I liked the idea of a brewery run by French Broads, and the place looking like the Moulon Rouge and the Broads doin’ Can-Can dancing and what not. 19641948 (491), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Pours a ruddy golden amber with a dense head of ecru. Fruity aromatics with plenty of stone fruit and sweet caramel squares. Flavors are solid with a dense feel, smooth and malty and fruity. Enjoyable mouthfeel, and a drinkability that makes it easy to slide down the gullet. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 25, 2007 Draft at Tyler’s in Durham, NC. Poured a clear copper color. Head was thin and off white. Aroma was of light brown sugar. Delicately sweet on the tongue with malty toffee, subdued brown sugar, and a hint of chocolate brownie and assorted fruits. I also detected a bit of caramel in the finish. There was a detracting hint of adhesive tape in the aroma and flavor, but overall this was a decent beer. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2003 Copper-brown color with a long lasting head. Nice malted flavors are noticable at first, followed by a somewhat bitter finish. Good balance overall. This unobtrusive brew should please just about anyone. Some cherry and caramel hints on top of a grainy aroma. There’s a little bit of chocolate malt and caramel taste in this one. Some apple juice. TURDFERGUSON (1604), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 26, 2007 On draught at Speakeasy. Pours a brownish amber with no head at all. No lacing either. Nose is full of malts and berries. Flavor is full of a nutty maltiness, more berries (blackberry, raspberry especially), a little caramel. The german malt profiles are very different and interesting. Nothing amazing, but pretty good. JCB (1781), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 25, 2007 Sample at Tyler’s, Durham. Rusty color with minimal head, this has some very floral characteristics to start with bready malts at the back. Nice and chewy, a bit of caramel. Not bad but probably nothing I’d seek out again.
