Commercial Description:
Our Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale is based on our Wee Heavy Scotch Ale recipe, but with a little more-er alcohol. This traditional Scotch Lowland ale is one of our most popular brews. Some of you may remember the original Wee-Heavy from the days when North Carolina brewers could not brew beers containing more than 6% ABV. We would like to take a moment and thank the people of Pop-the-Cap for all their hard work. Gold Medal - 2002 World Beer Championships, Chicago

Poured a dark brown/black, with minimal white head. Aroma of smoked grains and some caramel and molasses. Flavor of brown sugar. Very dry finish is the only thing that hinders this.

Growler thanks BrianK. Pours a brown body with strong ruby hues. Carmel malt dominates this one with some hop character. Sweet and dry in the finish. eh.

From draught sample at French Broad. Light caramel and molasses, roasted grain. Bit of sweetness in there with mild coffee and smoke. Bit of spicy hop character. Dark brown copper clear with thin head. Medium watery body with smooth carbonation. Mellow sweet malty character, brown sugar, and molasses. Sweet finish with brown sugar and light floral hops. Nice ale.

Draught at the WBF in Raleigh. Brown, small, off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, little alcohol, and caramel. Very malty flavor, roasty, with some bitter malt finish. Tasty beer.

On tap at Ruby’s in Haw Creek/Asheville. It’s own description does it justice: malty, toasty, and sweet. It’s not overly sweet, though... nice toffee notes of sweetness. Biscuity, too. Surprisingly light, so don’t expect a knockout. One of their better beers, I think.

Dark and malty with a big alcohol presence. Bittersweet with a smoky, peat tang. I liked it immensely.

This is not too much of a step up from the regular wee-heavy in my opnion. A bit morem altiness and alcohol, but still lacks that certain flavor that makes it stand out as a scotch ale. This is nuttier than it predecessor, with some caramel and toffee. Pretty mild for the style.
