Commercial Description:
Our Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale is based on our Wee Heavy Scotch Ale recipe, but with a little more-er alcohol. This traditional Scotch Lowland ale is one of our most popular brews. Some of you may remember the original Wee-Heavy from the days when North Carolina brewers could not brew beers containing more than 6% ABV. We would like to take a moment and thank the people of Pop-the-Cap for all their hard work. Gold Medal - 2002 World Beer Championships, Chicago

Sample; pours a brown color with not much off white head. Aroma was sweet with nuts, fruit and a light peat. Flavor was similar and below average for the style. Palate was off a bit, too thin for me.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a thin, fizzy-looking off-white head. Smell: The aroma holds some fruit, some peat, and some nuttiness. All of it quite faint, though. Taste: It’s a parade of hints! Mild pale maltiness. Faint, almost imperceptible sweetness. Soft peatiness. One drop of sorghum syrup. Just a bit of fruit. Finishes dry and clean. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Fairly mild and thin for supposedly being so much more heavy-er.

Courtesy jayg, thanks man!!!! Growler. Pours a nutty brown, with hints of orange-red through out. Aroma is sweet malts, but very little peat or smoke which I find very odd. Flavor is light and just too average. Not much going on here.

muddy brown, lasting thin fine beige head, lots of lace, medium body, big dry malt flavor with earthy character, rich carmel malt flavor, very dry, nice earthy peaty balance, noticable hops with a light bitterness, new version is fairly different in that it is now much drier or maybe hopped a bit more,

earthy smokey peat and roasted flavor is stronger than ever to the point of being an astrengent bitterness,

Had out of a bottle finally. The pour is dark ruby copper brown. The head is thin and tan with little carbonation. The aroma is sweet, subdued, malty, lightly peaty. The flavor is peaty/smoky, malty, earthy, lightly sweet, a mild bitterness. The palate is crisp and slightly bitter. A nice sessionable scotch ale.

Big thanks to jayg for bringing this growler. Pours deep copper with off white head. With the aroma I get roasted malts and a mustiness that seems to try to be peaty, nuttiness and faint alcohol. Smooth tasting with roasted malts, nuttiness and caramelized malts. Toward the finish a peatiness surfaces. The flavors go together pretty well. Yep, the peat/earthiness peaks up just a bit into the finish making it only just noticeable.

Growler… O-Town Throwdown Part Deux… Clear mahogany ale with a mid-sized, frothy, beige head. The nose is a restrained blend of grain, caramel, red wine and nutty notes. Lacking malt, the flavor is beefy and woodsy with a vinous, dark fruit slant. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Finishes bitter-sweet. Thanks to jayg for sharing his growler with us!
