Commercial Description:
Our Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale is based on our Wee Heavy Scotch Ale recipe, but with a little more-er alcohol. This traditional Scotch Lowland ale is one of our most popular brews. Some of you may remember the original Wee-Heavy from the days when North Carolina brewers could not brew beers containing more than 6% ABV. We would like to take a moment and thank the people of Pop-the-Cap for all their hard work. Gold Medal - 2002 World Beer Championships, Chicago

Alcohol aroma with an almost nonexistent head. Charred caramel flavor with noticeable alcohol. Not very smooth.

Bottle from Immy. Oh, the ecstasy!
Pours a deep, rich mahogany with a thick, pulsing head that gives notice that an aroma of hot, steamy malted leaves and sweet hops are about to explode in your nose. Flavor is a riesling malt with strawberry preserves and peach jam. Nice mouthfeel, but only slightly better than average. I love you, Immy.

Nice head with a complex dark amber appearance. Nice aroma with hops and apricot dominating. The first flavor to hit is black cherry. This beer has a kick but I think it needs more hops. Bitterness hits late (about a minute after first taste). Reminds me of German hops/bitterness. Not a beer that I would session.

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark garnet body with a large foamy off-white head that lasted forever. The nose is slightly sweet, toasty, a little coffee, and has a touch of some plum and raisin. The flavor is pretty decent, not too sweet, a little bit of dark fruits, some light peat maybe on the back end. Just a touch of hops on the back end as well. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, coats the palate well, and lingers for quite some time. Moderate fizzy carbonation. Not something to write home about, but it was pretty drinkable.

I was fairly disappointed in this. The taste was somewhere between a yeasty belgian and a spiced pumpkin ale to me. I liked that it was working to be something different, but it ended up just a muddy mix of flavors to me.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle. Appearance: Very dark tea color with an active, light tan head. Smooth and creamy looking. Good head retention. Aroma: A little woodsy, a little light caramel and toasted malt note. Lighter aroma than I was expecting. Flavor: Light malt, caramel, a little alcohol, a bit of tea, and some wood. Okay, but light in flavor and lacking body. Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium, slightly slick mouthfeel and a short, slightly bitter finish. Overall: Some some reason this just doesn’t strike me as a wee heavy. Not all that impressive.

Reddish pour. Odd aroma(infected?) sourish, peaty, caramel. Flavor doesn’t indicate an infection. Just ok. Caramel malt and some light hops.

Bottle courtesy of emacgee. Pretty ruby pour. Aroma is a mix of soured grain and sweet chocolate. Taste is sweet upfront with a tingle of alcohol to finish. Flavorful but the aftertaste is a little disheartening.
