| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 1, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with an average, frothy, light brown head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, caramel, cookie, nutty), average hop (flowers, perfume, grass), heavy yeast (barnyard, earth, horse blanket) with notes of plum, pear, dates, cinnamon, and apple. Full bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2009 bottle shared by me. Weeeeee. Dark brown pour with a 1 finger off white head. Grape, plum, and tobacco aroma. Flavor was similar, lots of smoky tobacco, plums, toffee, caramel, vanilla, molasses, tar, raisins, apples. Carbonation is explosive, the only thing that really threw it off a bit for me. maltdog (518), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Apr 30, 2009 A persistent tawny head tops the deepest rusty red ale. The estery nose evokes cola, licorice, bayberry candles, and molasses. Starting sweet and tangy, any assets are soon conquered by bitter smoke/creosote due to overuse of peated malt. Full flavored (not in a good way), but not particulary malty tasting. The palate ends up dry, sharp and chalky. A vegetal finish precedes the rough spicy/plastic aftertaste and moring-after headache. Chemically phenols abound. Stay away from this beer! Hophead22 (1106), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA

Big murky brown color with a light tan head and very good retention as well. Sweet, caramally, some light fruitiness as well. Slight bitterness, and a subdtle fruitiness, must be the belgian yeast, otherwise it’s very smooth with some alcohol heat in the end. rallison (113), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Pours a slightly hazy dark caramel with a 1 finger off-white head that sticks around for a while.
Very fruity with notes of dates, dried fruits, caramel and similar aromas. Definitely some Belgian yeast esters coming out here. Raisins. Apples.
Lots of fruity caramel in the taste. Apple notes. Brown sugar. Raisin. Pleasant.
Mouthfeel is not cloying, but has a nice richness accentuated by a slightly sticky caramel quality. Nice.
Well done.
Interesting, fruity, Belgian take on a Scotch ale. Not amazing, but I enjoyed it. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Bomber thanks to kb. Served into Duvel tulip. Pour is deep ruby/purple with about 3" of thick lacy light tan head. Im going to wait a minute for it to go down......Aromas of oak, slight rasin, burnt sugar and a light hop presence. Flavor is very dry and peaty up front. Taste is of dried plum, molasses, smokeyness, and some cherry. Interesting brew here. For the 9% abv it is hidden very well. Impressive!
