| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 24, 2008 The aroma was earthy and peppery with a Belgian yeast presence coupled to a chocolate character. The aroma had dark fruits, raisins and prunes, in the background and caramel as well. Light wafts of alcohol tickled the nasal passages. The beer poured into the glass crystal clear brown with an off-white low head which lasted enough to lace at the glass. The flavor was a bit odd with a smokey presence and a strong bittering and hop flavor component which was earthy and spicy and a bit grassy. The flavor contained chocolate and caramel, but neither at a high level. The Belgian yeast aroma, just came through muddy and understated in the flavor. The finish was dry and a bit metallic into the aftertaste. The body was medium-full with a low level of carbonation. As the beer warmed the flavor became a bit winey. Not a favorite of mine. 22 ounce bottle. $7 at Bruisin Ales. kp (8399), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Flavor was nice - definitely an interesting marriage of the two styles. Kinda thin palate. We both agreed that this was an easy drinker. Pretty good. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 19, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of Schutzenliesel. Thanks, Tom! Pours a very dark, reddish tea color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of unfixed sugar, creamy esters, and very lightly toasted malts in the aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: sticky candy sugar, relaxed carbonation, and caramel; overly sweet, sugary character that doesn’t offer a lot of depth, honestly; slightly weak scotch ale overall, especially for the level of alcohol in here. Medium, sticky sugar and a touch of dried fruits in the finish. jcwattsrugger (5333), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
