dkachur (618), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of kp. Thanks! Pours dark brown with a small white head. Very little retention or lacing. Aroma is hybrid-esque, with Belgian yeast, citrus, green apple, caramel and brown sugar. Taste is Belgian yeast, grain, nuts, citrus. Smooth and pleasantly tart. Another hit from French Broad. Hmm... on sip seven or eight I started getting the FUNK!
gotohelunc (322), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jul 10, 2008 Draft at City Beverage. Dark amber pour with a thin head. Tastes like a thin scotch ale with that malt forward flavor, some honey, but a thinner version of the usual booze finish. I assumed it was highly watered down to become their most popular beer. Instead, I discovered they made a strong ass beer that goes down like water. JCB (847), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bomber from November 2007. I’ve long enjoyed the basic Wee Heavy (which I need to enter from backlog), and thought the Wee Heavier was decent. This is an interesting experiment that really adds something new to previous offerings. Very full bodied copper/brown pour with a nice lasting head. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Aroma has some definite yeast in it along with strong caramel malts and some cinnamon and clove in there. There’s some real spice, almost an astringent flavor that doesn’t always blend well with the malts. Sometimes the yeast seems to balance things out in a quirky way, but not always. Strangely puckering finish, which is weird for the style I suppose. But damn if I don’t dig it in the long run. heemer77 (3609), North Liberty, Iowa, USA Jun 8, 2008 Noogfest ’08, thanks to suttree. The body was dark brown with a khaki head. The aroma was chocolate with some malt. The taste was malty and roasted with some iced tea. A decent brew. gunhaver (541), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 2, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Noogfest Four-O
Bottle, from someone. Message me if it was you! Pours grayish brown, with a well-carbonated head and good lacing. Has that peat aroma, but full of fruit and hazy yeast. Some cider, too. Interesting scotch quality, but mixes with banana and clove, some smoked malt. Smooth, light-bodied but packed with enough unique flavors to enjoy. Tmoney99 (3414), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 29, 2008 Bottle from shigadeyo. Poured clear brown color with an average light brown frothy head that lasted with good lacing. Complex roasted caramel malt and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Complex bittersweet flavor with solid bittersweet finish and a small bite of alcohol. Good brew.
