ChainGangGuy (1602), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 19, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-brown body circled with a thin ring of bubbles.
Smell: Aroma of toast, roast, caramel, and nuts. Yes sir, it’s a brown ale, alright.
Taste: Flavor of toasted nuts with a small hint of roast and a restrained caramel sweetness. Light spicy hops, low bitterness. Drying finish with a lingering nuttiness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: Sure, it’s designed for easy drinking, but in a world filled with brown ales, this one is just so-so. ATLBeerDog (194), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 13, 2008 Pours a reddish/brown with a small 1/8 inch head. Smells of malts, mild hops and spices. First sip has some spicy notes but not much flavor and not much of a finish. Fairly light bodied, carbonated well but lacking in flavor. daknole (833), Plantation, Florida, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle from Total Wine. THis is an ok beer, a tad underrated. Brown pour with a whitish head. A nutty aroma is follwed by a malty, nutty flavor. Some hops balance it out a bit. Not the best beer in the world, but certainly drinkable. jjpm74 (3086), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Sep 6, 2008 Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of shipyard yuck, some fruit, some earthy hints. Tastes fruity with a decent herbal finish. Brigadier (900), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Aug 27, 2008 12 oz bottle
Thanks to daknole for sending this along with several other beers in a recent trade. I’ve been drinking them as the last days of summer fade away in a change of pace from huge beers. This one was solid enough that I’m going to have to go against the grain. At its heart it might only be a brown ale but it is well done enough that it could be a daily drinker.
Aroma / Appearance - The reddish brown body was dark yet still let through a trace amount of light. A little watery it still made its presence known nonetheless. The nose was just what I expected from a simple brown ale - gingerbread and dark iced tea. Light with only a hint of malt it was easy on the nose.
Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel was more carbonated than I thought it was going to be. After this nice discovery came malt, a trace of bitterness like that found in an iced mocha and then a fast fade. I wouldn’t have thought to seek this out but it was a great find. The hoppy finish gives it enough character to set it apart from the crowd.
