emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 7, 2009 WBF. Pours a dark ruby copper with a one finger tan head. Nose shows grain, mild sweetness, some teryaki. Flavor shows soy sauce, grain, sweet malt, mildly astringent. Grainy palate. Did not enjoy. scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 28, 2009 Draft – Dark brown, white creamy head. Deep caramel aromas ride soft waves of smoky peat malt and tobacco. Toffee malt flavors balance quite well on a lightly smoked chocolate foundation with just a touch of ending hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, soft smoked malt finish. This certainly was a keeper…
BLButler08 (12), Carlsbad, California, USA Aug 4, 2009 Had on draft from brewery, pours a rich brown with great head, and german lace. Very nice caramel aroma, nice malt hop balance. Only thing I wish was that it was a little bigger tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Feb 13, 2008 Growler from elmatador00. Nice stuff! Pours dark, nearly opaque brown with a creamy khaki head. Caramel malt, a touch of smoke, wet earth/tree bark on the nose. Some butter toffee as well.upon warming, tons of fruit notes appear: raspberries, chocolate covered cherries. Lots of sweet, fruity malt with a hint of wood and earth on the tongue. Medium bodied and quite creamy. Sweet, but not cloying. Earthy, without being harsh. A very nice Scottish Ale. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA Feb 8, 2008 Draft at brewpub. Pours a opaque brown with a 2cm off white head. Aroma is mostly caramel and wood. Tastes of rich malt, barley, smoke, sweet caramel, and little hop presence. Finishes with a creamy texture. Alcohol is perfectly balanced. My favorite brewery in this area hands down. Also, great with the Homemade Meatloaf Sandwich.
