Nose shows grain, mild sweetness, some teryaki. Flavor shows soy sauce, grain, sweet malt, mildly astringent. Grainy palate. Did not enjoy. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 28, 2009 Draft – Dark brown, white creamy head. Deep caramel aromas ride soft waves of smoky peat malt and tobacco. Toffee malt flavors balance quite well on a lightly smoked chocolate foundation with just a touch of ending hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, soft smoked malt finish. This certainly was a keeper…

Pours dark, nearly opaque brown with a creamy khaki head. Caramel malt, a touch of smoke, wet earth/tree bark on the nose. Some butter toffee as well.upon warming, tons of fruit notes appear: raspberries, chocolate covered cherries. Lots of sweet, fruity malt with a hint of wood and earth on the tongue. Medium bodied and quite creamy. Sweet, but not cloying. Earthy, without being harsh. A very nice Scottish Ale. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Draft at brewpub. Pours a opaque brown with a 2cm off white head. Aroma is mostly caramel and wood. Tastes of rich malt, barley, smoke, sweet caramel, and little hop presence. Finishes with a creamy texture. Alcohol is perfectly balanced. My favorite brewery in this area hands down. Also, great with the Homemade Meatloaf Sandwich.
