Pour is auburn golden with a 1/2 inch white head. Aroma is pretty faint, some maltiness - caramel. Taste is slightly sweet caramel, toasted, nice grassiness. Taste is good, smooth, clean. Palate is a little slick, oily, really drinkable. Very sessionable beer. This was a nice one, thanks Derek! Aubrey (2781), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Deep brown accented by red. Smooth and soft with a mildish carbonation. Flavors of toast, brown sugar, cereal, nuts and light molasses. Hops were full of grass and earth and a bit of citrus. Small nip of alcohol but it was hidden well and hard to find. Very approachable beer and fairly easy to drink for a doppelbock. Couldn’t believe how cheap it was, also. Ernest (4515), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted bread), lightly to moderately hoppy (orange/grapefruit, flowers), with a light note of berries. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Decent enough, but a bit uninspiring. The aroma is straightforward, albeit pleasant, and smells like an American interpretation, which I suppose is to be expected from this brewery...lotsa caramel and citrusy hops (noble or not, they reveal an American treatment). Not quite what I want in a doppelbock, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with it. A strong effort for Full Sail, though. v8powered (66), , Nevada, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 19, 2008 A malty redish amber colored beer. Malty and light but great flavor. Sweet maple aroma mixed with a little cereal grain. Smooth, not very hoppy or bitter. Very enjoyable. Best beer I have ever had for a $3 22 oz beer. How can you beat an above average beer for $3? germarndt (1), Everett, Washington, USA does not count | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 19, 2008 nothing too special from full sail. i wa s a little dissapointed after a string of fantastic brewmasters bb (2941), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Bottle. Ruby-brown beer with a dark cream colored head. Malty, toffee, light vanilla aroma. Caramel malt flavor with a little bit of earth and backing hops. Medium body - possibly a little lighter- definitely lighter than I expected. Caramel/toffee lingers with some noble hops amd brown sugar. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Updated: Oct 19, 2008Bomber. Second time I’ve bought this beer, I enjoyed it so much the first time I didn’t bother taking notes as I knew I’d buy it again. And $4 for a bomber? Awesome. The goodness of this beer is a combination of the frothy but light body with a malt-forward, sticky, slightly sweet maple and smooth chocolate malt resins. Malt-heavy, sweetness isn’t overdone, it’s delicate and quiet, turning slightly spicy and peppery in the finish. Just outstanding. I fully admit I’m a Full Sail fanboy, but it’s not simply blind adoration for a hometown favorite, it’s the product of a decade of drinking Full Sail products and developing a real appreciation for their house character, so much that it’s something I look for in other beer but rarely find. So yeah, I’m a fan, but there’s an honest reason why. The house character, the yeast, the body of this doppelbock are all outstanding. I love it. BuckeyeBoy (1689), Boise, Idaho, USA
