From a 22oz Bottle. Mostly transparent, dark amber colored body with some ruddy hues and a thick layer of creamy beige head. Aromas of prune flesh and tobacco abound in the nose, rich and malty, but in a caramelized crystal malt kind of way, lacking in any munich-laden melanoidins. Clean, yeast-wise, with no noticeable hop aroma. Moderate alcohol warmth. Medium-full bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a chewy malt texture. Clean, malty flavors, with notes of prune, fig, and leather. Only a faint touch of hop bitterness helps to dry up the finish. Well executed, but lacks that distinctive munich-driven melanoidin character I expect and really want from my doppelbocks. I don’t say this to imply they didn’t use munich malt in the beer, but simply to state I’d like to see more of that distinctive, grapey, raisiny melanoidin punch.

Let me start by saying that I am not a lager person...bock’s are only marginally better in my opinion....Pours a translucent copper color with very little head that dissipated quickly. Very crisp lager flavor with a slight bit of a malty flavor. Not my favorite, but not bad either.

Sampled from 22-oz bottle during Dark Lord Day ’09 at table 3. Pours a clear reddish dark amber brew with a thin beige head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and off-white ring. Aroma of sweetened caramel malt, a touch of brown sugar, dark pitted fruits and some raisin. Taste is full bodied, very light carbonated with a smooth flavor of dark pitted fruits, raisin, some caramel malt and brown sugar. Finish is semi-sweet, the a malty aftertaste that slowly disappears.

22oz bottle. Roast malt aroma dominates with the slightest German hop bitterness. Clear mahogany with a small tan head. Rich sweet flavor with a mellow bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a soft creamy mouth feel. Good beer, the only problem is that for less money you can get wonderful German brewed Doppelbock’s.

Poured a clear light amber with a frothy head. Smelled of slightly under cooked fish and shame. Wait... ....sorry, that was the stripper that left her stink on me from the night before. Not a hole lot i’;m getting in the scent department. Taste is fairly bready, nutty, with a little bit of an earthy yeast. Flavors are not cloying, I had this with BBQ for lunch and it was actually a good pairing.

Pours a rich amber color with mild lacing after beige foam disappears. Full malt flavor with a bitter aftertaste. Taste and smell of caramel, and molasses. Overall a decent 21st birthday celebration.

Bomber. Poured translucent medium amber with a short-lived, swirly dusting of off-white head. The aroma gave notice that this was a big beer with estery alcohol over drawn caramel on the fore.. some earthy hops as well, but the heat almost gave a malt likka feel to it. The flavor was a bit more enjoyable with aged caramel and a pinch of honey supporting earthy and grassy bitterness.. quite warm around the edges as well with peppery alcohol riding through the finish. Medium-plus bodied and strong on the palate with OK balance.. nice spices on the back, but it was just too hot.
