Smells of light fruit, earthy, some nutty hints. Tastes chocolatey with some spicy hints and a touch of caramel on the finish. arrogantb (715), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 13, 2009 22oz bomber split three ways. Nice red-orange, almost brown but clear with a white head. It smells very malty which is obviously no surprise. The taste reminded me of plums and raisins as well as bready malt. This was very easy drinking, a good beer and I am not well versed in dopplebocks.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2009 Bottle from Jubilation in Albuquerque. Not good IMO. Aroma is sourish, with a kind of moldy malt character. Flavor is very beany, kinda rotten veg bitter. Not a good example of a style I don’t really even like. illidurit (897), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Pour: Bomber to pint glass. Dark but clear mahogany/amber with a small, fleeting, beige head.
Nose: Toasted cereal grains and caramel are the main aromas, with a fruity undercurrent, possibly red berries. Smells like one of those whole wheat breakfast cereals with dehydrated strawberries in it.
Mouth: Dark grains, like the flakes in Raisin Bran, with less of the fruitiness from the aroma. Honestly this tastes like if Sam Adams made a doppelbock. Well I guess they do make one but I haven’t had it, so what I’m trying to say is that it’s passable as far as flavor, and it’s certainly drinkable, but it lacks depth and fullness and it has a sort of watery finish. Clean but thinnish. Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 26, 2009 From a 22oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is full of malty and has a rich melanoidin character, with a touch of toast. Deep brick red amber with a small beige head. Flavor is malty, like toast with a slight figgy fruit character. Bitterness just balances the malt, while still being malt forward and not overly sweet. lingering dark caramel in the aftertaste. Chewy and rich, but balanced and drinkable. Very nice. Nose is sweet, nutty and caramelly. Caramel flavor with some hop and a whole lotta sweetness. Could stand to be a little more dry, but not bad. carruthm (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA
