No disappointments so far. This again, is a very nice beer. Smooth crisp, sweet, little bitter undertone to make it perky and get your attention. Feels like your drinking a beer with some gravity. Very nice, I like it very much. UNCCTF (465), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 28, 2004 On tap at the Empire Tap Room in Palo Alto. This one came to me in an English pint glass a dark amber color with a very lacy khaki head. The flavor was very malty and somewhat roasty and spicy. Finish was slightly hopped. A great amber ale. brownaler (379), Topsail Beach, North Carolina, USA

Nutty soft malts, with aromtic US hops in the finish, this is one of the better ambers you’ll find. Not bad. (Tap@The Pilsner Room (Full Sail), Portland. Same opinion as a bove. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 26, 2004 Pours a brown colour almost but not quite Opaque. Head dissipated rather quickly. Hop presence in the Aroma. So far so good. There is nothing lame about the Flavour. In fact with a 6% ABV the Flavour with its accompanying Malt and Yeast presence can be considered a well balanced and full flavored Ale to hang with the best of them. The flavour is rich in Roasted Malt, Water, Alcohol, some coffe and toffee flavours and Hops. I will continue to seek this brew out cause of its overall character and its place in brew history. An American Classic Indeed. Enjoy!
