Faint sharp metallic and malt aroma when cold. Lighter yeastier and increasing butterscotch and biscuity malt aroma as it warms. Medium strong aromatic bitter hoppy and medium-low sweetness malt flavours. Long lasting crisp bitter finish. Doesn't appear to be quite as well crafted as their pale ale. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 8, 2004 Dark amber color. I thought the hops dominated the aroma, the malt struggled to show through. Sweet and sticky mouth feel. Hoppier than I thought it would be. Need to try it again. iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 6, 2004 Draught: orangey amber body, full off-white head. Malty aroma like a good bitter. The flavour had more hops than I was expecting, which makes this a little bit better rounded amber, in my book. Another session beer from Full Sail to be sure, well balanced and easy drinking. zoidberg (25), USA

Small light beige head dissipates in a few minutes; smell is nice, light fruit and hops. Great flavor. Tastes sweet at first and finishes dry with an alcohol kick. A really nice amber. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 3, 2004 Color is a coppery rust, thin off-white top quickly disappears, lacing in bits of glaring spots. Aroma is soft and biscuity with a subdued dulled fruity sense, some lighter caramel and roasted malt within and a bit of grassy spiced hop underneath. Taste is a bit roasty but mostly dulled and sweet with a bit of a biscuit malt tone, milder hops with fresh cut grassy notes. Dull, chewy, nutty finish. A bit heavy on the malt end but sufficient hop spice and bittering help keep a yielding taste. The feel however does come across mostly malty, with a smooth medium body and a bit of chewy finish, getting close to cloying in some areas, but this does favor a good drinkability. Full Sail has themselves a pretty good amber here. zen (41), Long Beach, California, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 24, 2004 Bottle: What a nice pour, deep ruby color. I'm a cynic when it comes to amber. Once again, I was let down by a little "hype." Smell very roasty, nice to the nose. The head was paper thin, disipated even quicker. This ale seemed to decompose in front of my eyes. Mouthfeel suprisingly thin, with a strange chalk finish. Malty, with a hint of citrus on the palate. I found it all over the map, like many ambers. Nothing distinct in it's personality. It's like a Jaguar, nice to look at, but don't buy or ride in one. Veldy (42), Coon Rapids, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 17, 2004 This beer looks like an Amber but tastes like a pale ale. A very good beer, but nothing extraordinary. A dry sweet caramel aroma with mild PNW hops in the nose. A slightly bitter aftertaste which leaves me thinking about this beer for several minutes between sips. Certainly, the yeast is very neutral, so much so that it contributes almost nothing to the flavor of this beer. Perhaps its biggest flaw.
