Bottle provided by Styles. Thanks Chris. Pours black with a tan head. The aroma is lots of bourbon and some chocolate, very boozey. The flavor is heavy bourbon, chocolate, burnt, some raisin and plums, a touch of molases. The mouthfeel is soft and smooth.

Bottle thanks to Notalush, I believe, at the HW open house. Dark black in color with a thin tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and black licorice. Well, I am not a big fan of bourbon and I hate black licorice, but this beer was quite good. The bourbon flavor was definitely there, but it did not overwhelm. Dark chocolate, vanilla, raisins and black licorice round out the flavors I detected.

Thanks to Scott ( OhioDad ) for the bomber. I’ve been sitting on this for several months and just couldn’t hold off any longer. <!-- br --> I sat with my nose in my snifter for almost 10 minutes with this one! wonderful aroma of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and some licorice. very dark black on the pour with just a delicate bit of lace chasing its way down the entire glass. flavor is more balanced than the aroma would suggest. while the bourbon is certainly present, it is not dominate over the chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, oak or the hint of smoke. like the regular Black Gold, this one is a little thin in body. to me, this one has some similiarities to the first batch of CW Brewers Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout. damn fine stout, thanks Scott.

Thanks to Dough77 for sending this one to share! Black pour that produces an average sized light brown head. Bourbon, vanilla, licorice and dried fruits emerge from a sweet malt medley. The flavor follows the aroma and is delivered smoothly in an easy drinking mix. Thick and coating. Should improve with some time.

Dark stout with a thin enticing dark moka head. Vanilla and chocolate aroma with bourbon barrel notes, woody and pleasant. Some aniseed. Sweet chocolate in mouth, like malt balls, cherries, vanilla beans and smooth alcohol warmth. Rich and creamy and delicious. Sampled with Mtl crew, April 16 2006.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with Larry Pitonka (thanks!). Poured a dark black with a smaller sized brown head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, oak, light roast, raisins and some plums. Tastes of oak, vanilla, some chocolate, light bourbon, and roasty. The bourbon was stronger in the aromas whereas the wood/oak was stronger in the tastes. Some alcohol in the finish.

Once again, thanks goes out to acertain for this one! Pours opaque...black with yellowish brown head that dissapates to a fine film. The aroma has what one might expect: vanilla, alchohol, oak and a bit of smoke. The barrel aging really seems to have taken over the aroma...it’s hard to find the roasted malt as well as any coffee, dark fruit or chocolate notes. The flavor is a bit more balanced; while the bourbon, vanilla, and coconut seem to run the show, the smoke, dark chocolate and coffee elements are a lot more prominent. This isn’t to say that there still isn’t balance issues, they’re just not as big. Big, malty and sweet in the front...kind of juicy or oily through the tounge. Finishes with a bittersweet, warming burn that kind of lingers. The barrel aging once again made the overall body a bit thin, but I think that happens with the best of them. Overall pretty good, but it has some balance flaws...but that’s okay...I really love bourbon.

Very dark brown to near black depending on where it is held to the light. Dark cocoa, light single malt whiskey, with hints of black malt and stewed raisins. Smooth and rich feel. Strong coffee with heavy cream, touch of irish whiskey, vanilla and hint of oak. Quite balanced but to me this one lack a deep soul. Quite warming in the later part of the swig. Back of the tongue and throat. One of the best things about this one is it long and very enjoyable linger. Coffee and caramel and lightly toasted malts hang on and help soothe a touch of the warmth that is still there. Thanks to Andre for this nice nightcap.
