ross (1562), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Aug 28, 2006 Bottle from Andrew (acertain) Thanks! 2006 bottle. First I will start with, I am not a fan of bourbon, I never have been (since college), and since that one night where I can no longer smell it due to too much ingestion, I have lost my appetite for it. This beer, on the other hand, is fucking out of control. There isnt so much of a bourbon flavor as there is huge notes of vanillia, and oak, and chocolate. Very dark colored pour, with a thick tan head. Taste is sweet, rich, roasted coffee and chocolate, not very much of a hop presence. This is what a bourbon stout should taste like - not like drinking a bottle of jim beam, but more enjoying the finer qualities that jim beam has - vanilla, oak, etc. A great imperial stout, and hands down the best BBA stout I have ever had. I am not even crazy about BB stouts which is why I dont go ape shit like everyone else about the barrel aged releases, but this one that I could quite possibly go crazy for. Glad I have a few more bottles of this one to sit on and savor for the upcoming winter months. Fucking great beer.
Rciesla (910), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 14, 2008 Bottle in a trade. Pours a black body with tan head. Sweet malt, coffee, bourbon and oak, creamy vanilla and etoh notes. A solid Impy. hapjydeuce (581), Carlsbad, California, USA Sep 8, 2008 Another backlogged rating from RBSG ’08 Grand Tasting at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Sampled at the end of a crazy evening of insane beers. Dark brown color with clear edges and a tan ring. Huge bourbon and smoked wood aroma, smothered in vanilla. Flavor is sweet with tones of molasses, whiskey and some black licorice. Smooth, mature palate with a lingering oak finish. Awesome stuff. SDbruboy (1822), San Diego, California, USA Jun 28, 2008 22 oz bottle, from Liquid Solutions (I think). Pours dark brown, opaque with a smallish beige head. Roasty, bourbon barrel, raisin, bitter herbs, bitter chocolate, alcohol and more. Full body, gentle carbonation. Good. Capa (738), Yokosuka, Japan Jun 8, 2008 2006 vintage courtesy of BückDich. Deep, deep brown with beige head. Aorma is sweet malts, dark fruit, cocoa, bourbon, and soy sauce. Absolutely amazing flavor. Chocolate, dark fruits, milky, vanilla, roasted, bourbon, and some sweet caramel. Sliky smooth, soft, and full bodied. Delicious! pantanap (793), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 27, 2008 22oz bottle given to me as an extra by 11026. awesome!.....poured pretty dark, close to black with a thin wispy light brown head.... nose had equal parts bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla..... flavor had a strong assertive bourbon component w/ some charred burnt alcohol. this one was overly infused with bourbon from the barrel therefore lacking the cohesiveness with the base beer. somewhat thin mouthfeel with lively carbonation....wasn’t too big a fan of this unfortunately.
