The flavor and aroma are a wonderful blend of chocolate, bourbon and wood.... malty and earthy. A touch tangy. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Finishes warm and drying. Thanks to the Georgia crew for bringing the bottle with them! Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA

The beer pours to a very dark brown that’s transparent and nicely hued. The aroma is intensely chocolatey, smells like a bourbon barrel vanilla stout, not a porter. Insane amounts of bourbon. Nice flavor but it’s a touch overdone. Pailhead (2603), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Big bourbon and vanilla aromas with a hint of chocolate. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small beige head. Big bourbon and vanilla flavors with a hint of chocolate and caramel up front. A slight touch of sourness in the middle. Finishes with a touch of roasted coffee and alcohol warmth. Brigadier (1246), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

This was the 2004 version. I picked up hints of wood, sherry, vanilla, chocolate and malt coming from the deeply black body. After letting the last remnants of stubborn lacing slide to the bottom of the glass, I tried it. It was very smooth with a taste like a mixure between vanilla beans and Jack Daniels. There’s also interplay with roasted malts, coffee and caramel. It has a nice density which is full but not so dense you float from flavor to flavor. I think I prefer the Imperial Stout version but only just slightly more. Papsoe (15103), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2006 (Bottle 65 cl) Pours black and opaque with a creamy, beige head. Distinct roasted malt, oak and bourbon in the nose. Medium body with lovely roasted malt and accents of chocolate. Lots of bourbon in this but markedly less than in the Imperial Stout Bourbon Barrel Aged version. Has an underlying tartness and almost no bitterness. Tasted at the Oklahoma Beer tasting March 06 hosted by mjames and lilannie. 250306 peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 30, 2006 Dark colored olive oil. Nose of burbon dominates orange, musk, cream cheese. Hot nose. Flavour is burbon and sawdust, a liquid forest. Tougne leaves dry and dusty. Dough77 (777), Aurora, Illinois, USA

Flavor is similar but the bourbon takes second fiddle to the chocolate and wonderful malt presence. Very tasty and easy to drink.
