A black beer with a chocolate brown head. The sweet with strong notes of alcohol and bourbon, but also raisins and wood mixes in. The flavor is very sweet with notes of overripe fruits and bourbon as well as lesser notes of chocolate and wood. The end is slightly bitter with notes of chocolate. On my tastebuds this beer is closer to a Barley Wine than a Baltic Porter - but it is still a very nice brew.

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours black and opaque with a creamy, beige head. Distinct roasted malt, oak and bourbon in the nose. Medium body with lovely roasted malt and accents of chocolate. Lots of bourbon in this but markedly less than in the Imperial Stout Bourbon Barrel Aged version. Has an underlying tartness and almost no bitterness. Tasted at the Oklahoma Beer tasting March 06 hosted by mjames and lilannie. 250306

(RBSG04) Black body topped by tan head. Aroma is dominated by the bourbon (which of course smells very nice). Taste is sweet, chocolate up front, before turning strong bourbon (with light chocolate mixed in), light alcohol burn in swallow. Medium body -- weird to have what essentially tastes like bourbon have such a light body.

22oz bottle. 2004 vintage. Poured a black color with red edges and an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of stronger wood, roast, vanilla, light bourbon, earthy, and chocolate. Tastes of wood (not as strong as the aromas though), vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, dark fruits, and caramel. The bourbon wasn’t overbearing or too strong. Body was on the weaker side.

Chocolate influenced straight bourbon smell. Pitch black in appearance, eternally ponctuated by a large light brown head. It gains a lot in mouth, where the sheer size of the roastiness manages to counterbalance a bit the extreme bourbon influence. It nevertheless leaves a very warming sensation for its size, herbal rather than vegetal fortunately. Complexity is only enhanced by the wild herbal, vanilla and plum notes. Light-medium bodied, biting carbonation, very sweet, very roasty and very long in the finish.

Rerate 1/15/05: Pours completely opaque and very viscous with a nice, lightly lacing dark tan head. Aroma is still powerfully bourbon but seems to mesh better with the sweet roasty malty undertones. Very well balanced and tasty. This will last for some time.

Rich oily opaque blackness with a thin tan head. Aroma is mostly bourbon with some thick malty undertones. Body is sweet and malty with nice roasted flavor and has some tartness from the bourbon. Finishes clean, rich, and smooth, masking the alcohol very well. Very complex and well-balanced. Thanks to harlequinn for bringing this to the Georgia 14% gathering!

Bottle... DLD06... Very dark, clear brew with a small, frothy, beige head. The flavor and aroma are a wonderful blend of chocolate, bourbon and wood.... malty and earthy. A touch tangy. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Finishes warm and drying. Thanks to the Georgia crew for bringing the bottle with them!

Tap@Pilsner Room, Portland. Very rich and sweet. Full on bourbon/liquer like qualities come through straight away on the nose and in the flavour. Raisins, smoke, peat, vanillan oak, a lot of different flavours coming through. Very malty and complex, and sweet, perhaps a little too much so.
