The aroma is sweet with grassy notes of hops and malt - very crisp. The aroma is sweet and very malty with light notes of spices - especially elderberries, but also notes of grapefruit. moelikebeer (220), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 13, 2008 Bottle. Dark golden pour with a medium size head. Excellent aroma of sweet malt, hops, grapefruit. Flavor of hops more piney; nice maltiness in flavor and mouthfeel. BetterRedFred (62), Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2008 Although I’m a devotee of Stone IPA and have not been a fan of Full Sail offerings I’ve tried in the past, I must admit this stuff is one of the more balanced and better IPAs I’ve tried. A nice malty presence for an IPA (and as a true Stoney, I view a hefty malt presence as offensive), without being overly heavy. The bitter floral hops notes are all there, but not over the top. My bottle was marked at 6.0 ABV, and I find that to be the ideal. All in all, very good stuff. I don’t like many IPAs, but this one is very good indeed. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 11, 2008 I think the combo of hops don’t go well with each other. This is unlike any IPA Iv’e had. And Iv’e had alot. It’s ok. It’s smooth and hoppy. Not enough bitterness or citrusy notes for an IPA. I guess thats why they call it an English IPA, not American. lweiberg (89), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Pretty decent but nothing stands out in particular, and the balance seems to err on the side of not offending. EHopper (348), Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2008 Nice, exotic citrus aroma. Good amount of bitter hops with a dryness that I enjoy, and a maltiness behind. The bitter aftertaste last a bit too long, but overall, I’d be happy to have another. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Nice looking beer, dark with a hint of cloudiness and a nice head. Armoa is mainly the Challenger hops. The flavor is the same, as you only get the slightest hint of the Goldings and malt. Palate was medium bodied, and finished WAY to dry for me.
I must confess that the IPA is one of my least favorite styles, and this was just another American IPA in my book. FishManLA (300), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 25, 2008 Updated: May 27, 2008If you read my profile, you’ll see that I list my favorite beer style as IPA. To be specific, uber-hoppy American IPAs are my favorite. This one is a shining example of why that is. It pours an orangy-amber with a medium sized head with medium persistence. Pretty lacing is left on the edges of the glass as the beer is drunk. Nose is sweet and floral with notes of wood and spices. Flavor is distinctly woody and absolutely delicious bitter-hoppy with notes of herbs and spices with just a slight hint of bread. Finish is hoppy and bitter but clean and tasty and lasts exactly the right amount of time. It doesn’t linger too long nor vanish too quickly.
