Pours out a mahogany hue with quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is caramel and peat, very earthy. Flavor much the same with a little grassy hop flavor as well. Not one I feel much need to revisit. Especially disappointing coming after the amazing Porter of theirs I had. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | May 1, 2009 Didn’t care much for this one. Not really a scottish Ale. Too spicy/hoppy. Tastes more like a malty pale ale gone bad. Has a strange aftertaste, like the yeast didn’t do what it should have... jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2009 Mild must aroma with some roasted malt. Deep reddish brown in color with a fastly disappearing off-white head. Smooth. Mildly sweet, medium bodied with a bit of caramel. Some fruitiness - pears and apples in the background. Rather tangy with a faint smoke on the teeth. It’s a decent drinker. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2009 A sweet light malty aroma. Nice brown color. This is pretty light up front. The flavor is nice but a bit alcoholic in the finish. Good but not great. Sparky27 (1620), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours clear reddish brown with a half finger beige head that results in spotty lacing. The nose is faint caramel malt and light herbs. The taste is strange… cocoa/caramel/earthy peat/hops/sweet-n-low all intertwined. Medium mouthfeel. Strange brew, eh? riversideAK (2792), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Not much going on here. Sweet toasty aroma, touch of caramel, earth. Pours brownish with a nice head and some red hues. Toasty, sweet, some earthy notes with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Drinkable but unimpressive, and maybe a tad sweet for me. Meh. Can’t really define what I liked and did not like about this beer. One second I was thinking, man this caramely malt is nice and then a strange streak of flat bitterness hits my tongue. Better than average but also strange. beerguy101 (3971), Newark, California, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Sampled on 4/24/2009. This Scottish ale pours a medium brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head, with decent retention. The aroma is caramel, peaty and sweet. A medium bodied Scottish ale. The malts are caramel and sweet, some smoke and peat. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent balance. Nice carbonation. That said I really don’t like this beer. Not sure if its the peat, the smoke or the herbal vegetative flavors or the combination of all of them, but I can’t drink this one. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, herbal and peaty.
