RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2008 12oz bottle. Aroma: Caramel, bread dough, cooked corn. Appearance: Amber in color and clear. Off-white head was medium sized and foamy with fair retention. Not much lacing. Flavor: Bready and grainy maltiness, caramel, earthy hoppiness. A bit of cooked vegetable. Light bitterness. Palate: Medium-light bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Maybe it’s just me, but there was too much of a corn aroma/flavor in this for me.
Cybercat (421), Georgia, USA Oct 1, 2008 Aroma is strong, malty and appetizing; there is just a whisper of apple or pear. Color is a nice clear orangy amber with a fairly thick and firm head. The flavor fills the mouth with a sweet but not cloying maltiness and has hints of fruit and hops. Texture is smooth, and aftertaste has a pleasantly hoppy undertone. Satisfying. ditmier (222), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 1, 2008 2008 Bottle - Pours dark for a lager, small white head, aroma is fruity, a bit hoppy...flavour matches, light, decent grass and dry fruit, grainy and lightly hopped at the end..a decent beer, but probably won’t drink this again...just decent. Sammy (3134), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 27, 2008 Recent bottle from Whole Foods in Cleveland. Pours light orange with white head. A bit of aroma of hops, some malt. Smooth mouthfeel. Bit of cheesiness in there, but otherwise soid lager. Refreshes. jhumphries69 (520), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Sep 20, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a brilliant, deep golden orange with a medium-thin off-white head that fades quickly. The aroma is very bready and toasty with malts but also has a noticable perfume/flower aspect from the hops (smell like noble hops, but not the spicy note expected of German hops - doesn’t smell like Saaz to me either... perhaps an American-bred noble hop descendant like Liberty or Mt. Hood?). The flavor follows the aroma: a distinct bready and toasty malts (more melanoidins than one would expect from a pale lager - which is quite nice) with a touch of residual sweetness and a distinctly perfumey taste of hops. The light sweetness, perfumey hops, and subtle sulfur give a faint impression of apricot on the front of the palate. At mid-palate, the bitterness is quite pleasant, but still allows the malts to take center stage. The finish is somewhat dry with a bready/toasty malt character and more perfumy hops. The mouthfeel is quite rich and surprisingly full for a pale lager (the full body and full flavor, though, are foreshadowed by the beer’s respectable alcohol content). The carbonation is very nice - enough to give the beer a crisp feel but still soft and gentle on the palate. Overall, a well done lager that is very drinkable. Sleeper (65), Washington, USA Sep 14, 2008 Smells sweet with citrus nose. Color is light amber and very clear. Taste isn’t as sweet as I expected though. Taste peaches maybe but quickly subdued by the hops. Aftertaste is like sucking on a peach pit.
