Prodigal Sun IPA, Full Sail Brewing Company 22 Fluid Ounces of Incredibly Radiant IPA, Brewmaster Reserve 2008. Into a Duvel glass, just for fun. Clear, bright, yes, radiant reddish hue, huge, lace-leaving head. Myriad fruit associations abound in the aroma, some cherry, some apple, orange peel and lemon below that...a little apricot and peach. Light spice. Tasting...big, juicy malt, huge hop bitterness. The hops grip the play and plow all over the tongue, sticking it out for the long haul. Medium bodied, long finish, ever-lasting hop bitterness. But the flavor, while good, is not among my favorites. Quite nice, though, despite my preferences.

Bottle:   Fiery golden, vibrant and clear, lively carbonation, rocky off-white head, decent lacing.   Citrus rind, pine, and hops on the nose.   Pale citrus rind and soft malts on the tongue.   Tastes like a toned down Wreck The Halls.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Clean finish.   Pale citrus rind lingers.   Decent little IPA.   Wished it were a bit floral to balance out the rind, but good regardless.

Pours beautiful orange to copper color with very think and bready head. Nose offers delightful citrus - sharp grapefruit juice, apricot, and a pleasant wet lawn grassy component. Palate is very dry with the hop presence, herbal, and mouth puckering on the finish. Aftertaste is spicy and chalky like an Altoid breath mint. Not a lot of balance here.

Thanks to Hayduke for this. Cloudy and kind of dirty orange in color. A thin blotchy head. An aroma of sweet citrus fruit, malt and grain. Flavor is also sweet and soft fruit, gentle spice notes of pepper and cinnamon, and caramel that nicely balances the hops. Quite bitter and also somewhat sour. A nice smooth and easy to drink IPA. The hops didn’t overpower with grapefruit which left some grateful tastebuds.

Pours amber with a stubborn white head. Smells of citrus, resiny, caramel. Tastes sweet and caramelly with a full compliment of citrussy hoppy flavors.

An amber beer with a thin lazing beige head. The aroma is plainly sweet malty. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and hops, leading to a dry bitter finish.

citrucy hops, with some odd odor, smells like sulfur. Flavor is light, and fruity. lots of nice hops, and this is really quite bitter. There is some more sulfur in the finish, might be an off bottle.

I always seem to enjoy Full Sail’s reserve offerings and the prices can’t be beat. I’m not sure if this is the same as Son of Spot but re-branded or what. nice light orange color. It smells slightly like grassy hops but nothing strong. The flavor is a nice balanced IPA with the only prominent hop feature being a grassy bitterness. I did not find this to be nearly as hoppy as some of the other reviewers here. Overall, a decent IPA but most likely will disappoint the real hop heads. Bottle via trade with BlackForestCO. Thanks Jake! Pours copper with an initially big foamy head that diminishes to a ring around the glass. Good lacing. Aroma is pine and grainy malt. Has an odd aroma in the background that I couldn’t place. Flavor is bitter hops with malt balancing in the end. Decent brew.
