Aroma of lightly sweet earthy dark caramel chocolate and complex bourbon oak with a toasty maltiness. Body starts with a mild dark caramel malty sweetness and an earthy, oaky fresh bourbon balance before a drier molten dark chocolate finish. A nice imperial porter, but not as full bodied as the older version. shp555 (1681), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Poured into snifter glass. Smells chocolaty. No light is passing through this glass, that’s for damn sure. Smell alcohol in the second whiff. Unbelievably smooth. Malt just flows. You can taste the distinctive cask flavor, but it’s far from overpowering. You could smell the alcohol, but you really can’t taste it. Just a delicious bree. Taste has hints of bourbon, chocolate, and caramel. Wish it had a stronger bourbon bite on the finish, a little too thin bodied for me. Good solid nothing exceptional though. I recommend this one to others. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Updated: Mar 21, 200822oz bottle. thanks Sparky! pours slick black with small fizzy head that doesn’t last long. the aroma started off very dusty woody but once it breathed it opened up a bit more with some soft buttery bourbon notes, vanilla, and chocolate. flavors are a bit rough around the edges, lots of wood, chocolate, and hints of dark fruits. a bit fizzy mouth feel and thin body. really tasty sipper but it lacks finese like most full sails. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Black pour, medium brown head. Aroma is oak and bourbon. Flavor is fudge, bourbon, lots of woody to this, some vanilla. Very dominated by the wood but is very chocolatey and the touch of bourbon is all balanced nicely. Some smoke in the background and even a dash of raisens. Nicely done. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 19, 2008 a generous bonus beer from hannont, shared with Illini08. pours nearly black with some reddish hints around the edge and some khaki lacing. aroma of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, some coffee and alcohol. flavor is dominated by the bourbon with some oak, vanilla, chocolate and ripened dark fruit lurking around. I like bourbon beers, but this one just smacks you in the face with its boozy presence. if I had more, I’d age the rest for at least a year, maybe two.
