truegen (137), Puyallup, Washington, USA Mar 2, 2008 22oz. bomber. You know this came out of bourbon barrels right on the pour. Not much foam, but a nice tight lace down the glass. Rich, whiskey, dark fruit aroma with just a little wood. Smooth, dry, lightly semi-sweet chocolate flavor was a surprise. I was expecting a syrupy brew (which can be nice as well) and the lack of sap really leads you to explore the flavor more completely. Though my experience with the bourbon barrel beers is still limited, this is the best of them I’ve had so far. Magnificent stuff!
nbutler11 (223), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Oct 12, 2008 Pours a velvety black from the bottle with a faint attempt at a brown head of foam. Loaded with bourbon, vanilla, bubble gum, and licorice on the nose with flavors of dark cocoa, mild coffee, and dark fruit in the taste. Highly viscous and potent, but a little thin in body. KieferUGA (365), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 29, 2008 22 oz. bottle, courtesy of Beerlando. 2008 vintage. Dark black color with a small, light tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, soothing vanilla, and tons of whisky. Thin mouthfeel, but not watery. Flavor is a treat. While it is definitely boozy, the other notes are still allowed to shine. As with the aroma, notes of vanilla, chocolate, oak, and some smokiness. Finish is warming alcohol and coffee notes. Very tasty beer. thickfreakness (107), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 26, 2008 Bomber from JB175. Thanks Jason! Pours black with ruby around the edges and a little foam around the edges. Smell is coffee beans, slight chocolate, and a lot of harsh oakiness. Flavor is similar with a huge hit of stale coffee, creamy cocoa and some astringent oak. Bourbon flavor was nice though. It left some stinging alcohol on the palate. Medium palate and medium carbonation. This was sort of WeeHeavySD (1871), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 25, 2008 Bonus Bomber from OldMr.Crow. Full Sail and me once got along but we don’t anymore. So I’m curious about how good this might actually be. Pours black with a light brown head. Nose is oaky with bourbon. Taste is sweet and chocolaty and overall decent. Rciesla (910), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Sep 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body. Big head. Lots of sweet chocolate malt, bourbon, coffee and oak. Not bad.
