Taste starts off strong on chocolate, then a large almost astringent oak taste, and washes clean with warm bourbon. JJClark (546), Roscoe, Illinois, USA

Could definately taste the oak in the beer and almost had the feel and taste of a fine wine on the palate. I could taste a little bit of the alcohol, but it seemed very appropriate for this beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Duane shared a 22 oz bottle with me - thanks! Black pour with a slightly dark-mocha colored head. Bourbon, vanilla oak tannins, and a strong roasted malt presence in the aroma. The bourbon was the flavor that really dominated this beer. 10 months may have been a bit long to age this in the barrels. Still, this beer had good complexity - bourbon, oak, some vanilla and chocolate, and a nice roasted malt presence. Medium bodied. Very good! elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Courtesy of Dragonstout. Pours a dark brown with a thin reddish head. Aroma is mostly cocoa. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, burnt caramel, little candied sugar. Finishes with a slight vinous flavor. Palate is smooth and creamy, and finishes clean. trevor211 (518), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 26, 2009 Got this one thanks to Roger @ the Ballard Market. I’ve had it in the basement for a while now, and recently pulled it out to compare it to this year’s release, Black Gold. They’re so similar in so many ways. This pours black, with a light brown head, and hits you with bourbon notes right away. I’m so impressed with Full Sail for extracting that much flavor from the bourbon barrels. The front end is nearly identical to Black Gold, with roasty chocolate, dark malts, and a very smooth texture. This one’s a bit thinner, though, and the back end gives it away - the malts move into a more caramely flavor, and the roastiness typical to porters comes out a bit more. It’s still really, really good - I’m already looking forward to next year’s release - but this is no Black Gold. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a tan head. Rich foamy head. Nose is chewy caramel and deep chocolate with some definite bourbon in the nose. Perfect carbonation, big chocolate up front with a malty caramel soaked in bourbon middle. Slight alcohol in the finish then a little dark chocolate. Finishes pretty dry for a stout/porter but this is really tasty. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2008 Sampled @ ogglethorp’s. Pours very dark black. Nose is intimidatingly strong of bourbon with vanilla undertones. Good thing I am not afraid of bourbon. Very full of booze with tastes of oak and dry fruit. Warm finish that could keep your innards toasty in the dead of winter.
