TET (119), Finland Jul 24, 2008 Very dark brown beer with medium beige head. Aroma is compicatedly sweet: malts, syrup, raisins and some roasted malts to balanced sweet aroma. Flavour is similar than aroma; sweet malts and some roasted malts and syrup. Smooth and slippery to drink. Fuller’s 1845 Celebration Ale is too sweet for my taste, but still balanced beer and whoever like this style will be like this too. dkoonce (721), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Jul 15, 2008 Dark brown, with a thick, tight head that fades to a nice lace down the glass. The aroma is sweet malt and alcohol. From the aroma, I’d peg the alcohol at 9%+ Medium/heavy body, with a sweetness that overrides the subtle malt. Not much bitterness. The finish lingers, due to the sweetness and alcohol. Ljunkan (103), Karlstad, Sweden Jul 15, 2008 Aroma: tropical fruits, sweet malt, caramel, slightly hoppy.
Appearance: dark red, almost brown color with a nice white head.
Flavour: malty sweetness, caramel, sweet berries, aromatic flowery hops. Good bitterness.
Palate: smooth, clean, bitter finish.
Overall: an easy-to-drink-beer, with a very good maltiness. As the beer warms up it reveals a nice, flowery bitterness. Feels a bit like a "Barley Wine-light". Fuller’s never fails to impress me, but, honestly, this one took time to understand. Maybe it was a bit too cold first (even though it wasn’t that cold), but i don’t know. I think this is the best beer I’ve had from Fuller’s, even though the ESB and Porter are very good too. polomagnifico (386), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Jul 14, 2008 bottle. Aroma of caramel malt, apples, mineral, metallic hops. Dark bourbon red amber hue with a large off-white frothy head that left great lace and mostly lasted. Flavor is smooth caramel malt, apple, some mineral and metal hops on the finish. Palate is lively and medium bodied. Just a gorgeous brew that looked promising but a let down in the end. Metallic hop presence was just too much. Indulgence (16), Ajo, Arizona, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle 20oz: Coming from a mostly wine, bourbon and whiskey world to beer. It amazes me the complexity of the finer beers and how they embody qualities of wine and whiskeys, and the prices are silly affordable. Anywho, another great beer from Fuller’s, although I like the ESB a litter more since this requires more concentration. Aroma is christmas fruit cake - in the good way. Flavor is complex with dried fruits and baking spices with some bittering hops. Alchohol is tingly and finish is long. I’m enjoying this.
