fredthecat (179), Canada Dec 12, 2008 ahh the ultimate inviting smell that is a good english ale, very malty smell. just a bit of head that fades quickly, a beautiful deep red colour. tastes like caramel and slightly bitter and dates, it is pretty carbonated... pretty good a strong percent and tasty bitter, might get again but it tastes alot like wellington dark on tap only sweeter and alot more expensive. scoth (266), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Dec 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear, scarlet-brown, with a one finger biege head, good lacing. Malty and fruity aroma, like pears and spice. Medium body, velvety smooth. A little bitter up front, then it gets sweeter, caramel and nuts, finishes with a mellow bitter, with an edge of pine and citrus. Drinkable and balanced. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Dec 6, 2008 500 ml. bottle. Pours a thick creamy off white head, good duration, loads of lacing, over a slightly cloudy brown copper body....nose is roasted malts, caramel with small amount of resin.....tastes primarily of rich roasted malts....chewy mouth feel, carbonation light...good. 12/06/2008 mahennin (16), chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 5, 2008 Deep amber color with foamy, not white head that dissipates rather quickly. Color is extremely impressive. Smells of malt and alcohol. Tastes of very rich malt. Great beer. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Dec 4, 2008 Poured dark hazy brown color with medium head. Aroma is musty hops and malt. Flavor is sweet with rich malt on palate, finish is slightly bitter. Great beer and very easy to drink. Slacks (480), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Nov 30, 2008 500ml Bottle: Pours deep amber and brown, good off-white head with great lacing from top to bottom. Fighting the effects of a cold so pegging aromas proved difficult - sadly, all I can say is more fruit and malt than hops. Lots of alcohol and hops up front in the taste, great bitterness that makes way for a nice sweet balancing hit of malt. Quite a bit of carbonation, and a very dry finish. It’s well crafted, well balanced, and enjoyable - worth the wait (took me three years to find one!) Taverner (825), San Ramon, California, USA Nov 26, 2008 Pours an clear amber with some white frothy head. No floaties, despite being bottle conditioned. Flavor is English malt, with notes of leather, mesquite, hickory and tannins. The nose is less hoppy and more dry malty. It finishes on a dry, biscuity notes. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Nov 26, 2008 Bottle, served at cellar temperature. This is a beautiful transparent amber with a great, thick, long lasting head. There is plenty of cherry in the aroma, some raisin, caramel, yeast. I taste more cherry leading to orange with zest with more complex fruit sweetness, grape with skins and maybe a hint of chocolate. Finishes with plenty of pleasant bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium and wonderful with plenty of animated carbonation on the tongue. Wonderful!
