Aroma is complicatedly sweet: malts, syrup, raisins and some balanced roastiness. Flavour is similar than aroma; sweet malts with some roasted malts and syrup. Smooth and slippery to drink, quite pleasant. Fuller’s 1845 Celebration Ale is too sweet for my taste but still balanced beer and whoever this style-loving will be like this too. It includes a cognac/whiskey molasses flavoring. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Jul 15, 2008 Dark brown, with a thick, tight head that fades to a nice lace down the glass. The aroma is sweet malt and alcohol. From the aroma, I’d peg the alcohol at 9%+ Medium/heavy body, with a sweetness that overrides the subtle malt. Not much bitterness. Appearance: dark red, almost brown color with a nice white head.
Flavour: malty sweetness, caramel, sweet berries, aromatic flowery hops. Good bitterness.
Palate: smooth, clean, bitter finish.
Overall: an easy-to-drink-beer, with a very good maltiness. As the beer warms up it reveals a nice, flowery bitterness. Feels a bit like a "Barley Wine-light". Fuller’s never fails to impress me, but, honestly, this one took time to understand. Maybe it was a bit too cold first (even though it wasn’t that cold), but i don’t know. I think this is the best beer I’ve had from Fuller’s, even though the ESB and Porter are very good too. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Jul 14, 2008 bottle. Aroma of caramel malt, apples, mineral, metallic hops. Dark bourbon red amber hue with a large off-white frothy head that left great lace and mostly lasted. Flavor is smooth caramel malt, apple, some mineral and metal hops on the finish. Palate is lively and medium bodied. Just a gorgeous brew that looked promising but a let down in the end. Metallic hop presence was just too much.
