yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Apr 30, 2008 From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and golden amber to brown. Light fruity nose. Flavour is sweet caramel malt with a light roasted note and a slowly increasing bitterness. Light roasted malt finish with a nice complimentary bitterness to break the sweetness. mikkopen (250), Oulu, Finland Apr 28, 2008 500 ml bottle. Deep reddish brown colour with a thick whitish head. Strong aroma of fruits and flloral hops. Flavour is fruity, mostly citrus, with a strong, dry, hoppy finish. Perhaps the best Fullers I’ve had so far. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Apr 23, 2008 Bottle. A solid year past the "best consumed before date". I don’t think it made any difference... because it tasted unbelievable. Strong roast malt and maple flavor with great balanced hop bitterness to off set sweetness. For a style that hasn’t impressed me previously, this is beyond my expectations. Will have 1845 again. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Apr 17, 2008 Clear dark brown color with a billowing head that took its time dissipating and left great lacing on the glass. Strong malt and fruit aroma with some citrus. Great complex profile of flavors, almost like a Belgian. Caramel, nuts, fruit, malts, citrusy hops, with the malt winning out in the end. Wonderful mouthfeel - silky smooth, just the right carbonation. Other Fullers seemed to fall short of expectations; this exceeded them by a mile. Imperial-John (154), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2008 Updated: Nov 29, 2008500ml at LCBO and at Rhino in westend Toronto. Reddish brown with thick tan head that quickly thins. Caramel malty alcohol aroma. Creamy, malty, hoppy dry taste. Hoppier and not as tasty as I remember. Recipe change? Very similar to Tankhouse. glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Apr 8, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of roasted and nutty, moderate herb note for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with brown sugar in the background. Head is frothy, off-white, with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is slightly hazy red/brown. Flavor is lightly sweet and acidic to start, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, creamy with a soft, verging on lively carbonation. It finishes lightly astringent and aloholic. A great balance in flavors. This is probably the best English beer I’ve had. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Apr 7, 2008 Pours the dark amber color we’ve come to know and love. Generous light tan foam head, dense foam and lasting. Color slightly clear. Aroma of medium-dark malt, sugars, caramel, and honey. Taste is mostly malty, a little bitter (slightly hoppy), and mdeium/thick. Slightly bitter finish, with a bitter-sweet malt aftertaste. Clearly premium pale malt like Halycon in this one. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Apr 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark, semi translucent amber color with nice semi thick head with good retention. Aroma of dark roast, hops, with very slight floral, slight apple. Flavow VERY nice. Strong roast malt and maple flavor with great balanced hop bitterness to off set sweetness, and almost taste as if it was in a bourbon oak cask, but it says bottle conditioned on the label, I swear I taste wood tannins though with slight bourbon.. has slight alcohole spiceMedium carbonation with medium-full body. Great beer!, one to enjoy.
