evilsoc (191), Wales Mar 11, 2008 Stunning colour, purpley mahogany with a lacing head that doesnt give up. Fist smell was cakey, dried fruit, and sticky sweet. Roast malt and nuts flavour with a spicy hop and charred finish, nutty, again, which lingered niceley for a few seconds alcohol evident at the end. Nice and worth the money easily. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 11, 2008 3-5-08 bottle (small 4 oz. sample)
Semi-translucent brown maroon with okay head. Hoppy and sweet alcohol aroma - not heavy or over the top - actually pretty decent. Flavor is like a quick weakened version of other Strong Ales I’ve tried. Pretty good malty flavor with nice caramel notes in there. Very drinkable. Creamy and silky smooth on the palate. Alcohol is more noticeable than I want in a 6.3% beer - but not bad overall. gam (1059), brisbane, Australia Mar 9, 2008 Rich amber colour, head good, carbonation right for this ale, aroma raisin, cinnamon, clove.Flavour tangy a nice bitter, raisin, cinnamon, plum finish is dry, this beer doesn,t stick with me,the end flavour is a bit off as well. downender (2528), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Mar 8, 2008 Bottle from Sainsburys. Reddish-amber colour with a decent off-white head that left lots of lacing. Aroma of caramel, nuts, dried fruit and spice. The flavour was sweetish, with red cherries, mores nuts, some wood and nutmeg. The finish was dry with some earthy hopping. Excellent. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 6, 2008 Pours maroon and clear with a medium sized lasting beige head. Smell is biscuity, slightly tart malt. Taste is surprisingly hoppy compared to the nose with dark bready and caramel malt flavor to accompany the hops. Slightly full bodied and crisp yet soft carbonation. Pretty balanced and drinkable with a nice mild hop character. Pleasantly surprised. Haslinger (640), Syracuse, New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 Pours a beautiful dark color that looks ruby red when held up to light. The taste is just incredible. It tastes like a cake I love everything that is happening in this beer. I would buy again in a heartbeat. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 27, 2008 Pint bottle poured into trappist glass- poured semi hazy ruby amber, off white head formed and stayed for quite a few minutes, aroma of heavy malt and some floral hops. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt is enjoyable, a touch of sweetness in the middle (very caramel like), a little alcohol and hop note on the finish. Very easy drinker. redgold07 (308), Irving, Texas, USA Feb 25, 2008 Pours a dark amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is sweet and malty... notably sugar and caramel. Taste is great and similarly malty, but with a slight hop bitterness as well.
1 0.9 oz. bottle.
