Nose of caramel, toasted malt, and sweet bread. Taste is nutty, roasted malt, light and very well balanced English-style hops. This beer achieves a superb balance between hops and malt. Nice!
The linger is a little too roasty but it is a very small complaint. matthewjk (57), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

That being said, however, I don’t believe in relative rankings: a beer is either good or it is not. This ale is not the best. I need to stay away from these infernal English & Belgium ales. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 15, 2009 Deep amber color with a small tan head. Malty and funky aroma lead to a nice dry crisp taste, kind of like an ESB but bigger. Nice lingering flavor of sweet malts, but still dry. Very Good. BobbyAnalog (20), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 15, 2009 A nice rich flavor, boisterious in color and aroma. Distinctive, bold aftertaste and a gorgeous whipped caramel head. Good with desserts for its consistency. Frovigalning (404), , Sweden
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 7/20 | Oct 11, 2009 It poured a lightly brown dark golden liquid with a big lasting foam, that left allot of lacing. It had a smell of caramell and something funky like an outdoor toilette. It had a smooth mouthfeel at first but got stingy further back in my mouth. It tasted of caramell, malt, some roasted notes and funky toilette. Not very good. Enjoyit (1706), Vadum, Denmark

Fruity and malty aroma with raisins and marzipan. Rich, fruity and vinous taste with hints of alcohol, raisins and fruitcake, followed by a bittersweet finish. jonno (562), Brisbane, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Lots of licorise and dark fruit throughout. Perhaps not in 100% condition this bottle, but still showed a lot. QUite rich and probably a one bottle drink on a nice chilly evening.
