Bottle from Sainsburys. Copper with an off white foam. Aroma is weak, I really had to struggle. I’ve swirled and swirled down to the last bit just to get a few whiffs of sweet malts, yeast, raisin, caramel, metallic hops and alcohol. Taste is malt. Bready, biscuity and again slightly metallic with a bitter dry hop finish and an alcohol burn on the way down. Quite boring and just didn’t live up to the hype for me...

A medium dark brown pour with a tan head. The initial aroma was brown sugarish, hints of spice with malt and light abv. A flavor that reminds me of raisins, lightly sweet with a fine light bitter finish. Carbonation and mouth feel are pretty close. Very good beer it took me a long time to get around to drinking.

Aroma: sourish, lovely, exotic fruits. Funky malt... nice summer hops...
Flavour: aah, oh. Nice balance. Sourish, bitter, fruity, almost flowery...
Appearance: dark copper forest brown, clear body with broken bubblefilm...
Palate: fluffy, lovely.

Great balance of hops and all around pleasing on the palate. Poured out of the bottle, and slightly yeast taste (didn’t leave the 1 cm at the bottom). Spectacular and all around enjoyable. More bitter at the end

Trade with Matt7215. Bottle: Pours a rusty copper with a thin white head. Not much aroma, slightly malty. I am all for hoppy beer, but it needs to be balanced, which this one wasn’t. Coming from a bottle I didn’t expect a metallic taste. Overall I am highly disappointed.

An ale that has simularities of a stout. A very good beer, something i could have at a bar, with food, and bold enough to stand out in a tasting. Golden amber color. Sweet, maybe a tiny hint of coco and citrus flavors. A little dry, hoppy taste, maybe the yeast i’m tasting. Tastes of nut and caramel are also slightly noticeable. No one ingredient stands out, but together it forms a great beer! Definitely a standard of the style and recommended.

[760-20071013] Bottle (w/ jerc). Boozy chocolate malt aroma. Clear, dark brown amber body with a long-lasting foamy light tan head. Boozy malt flavour has a bit of a vegetable background. Medium body. Nice malty brew.

THOUGHTS: A nice British beer. Not bad, but nothing memorable. Aroma seems nice but weak. But for some reason I truly believe this is something that people were really drinking in the 19th century. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium red with a small, creamy, off-white head that mostly diminished but left good lacing. The aroma was light to moderate malt, light to moderate herbal hops, lightly yeasty with sweet fruit. Nice but weak. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter and acidic, while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter with and average duration. The flavor was a little malty with a little fruitiness that switches to herbal hops in the finish. Nice balance but seems a little watered down. The medium body was sort of oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a metallic finish.
