Theis (3617), Denmark Oct 3, 2007 Bottle (presant from Mikkel) in train (x2000) going to Stockholm for the Beer & Whiskey Festival, shopping and visiting good beerbars (Akkurat). Clear red/brown - offwhite head. High malty, raisins, barley, berries, red berries, cookies, high sweetness, Caramel, sweet malty. Far too sweet. Dry hoppy finish. PintPilgrim (16), Ontario, Canada Oct 3, 2007 sweet nose, pours with a nice biege head which diminished rapidly. nice spice with underlying caramel and great bitter finish. better than expect. will definately have again. Thanks to jay for bringing this in from Quebec soren2007 (8), USA does not count Sep 30, 2007 Smells citrusy and sweet, almost too much so. It is cloudy out of the bottle, but this might be because at checkout they handed it to my sidways after inverting the bottle. Tastes crisp, spicy, caramel and yet very sweet with a lingering after taste. Its very close to the traditional ale bitterness and complexity that you find in small village breweries, but not quite. The usual creaminess and mouthful seems to be missing. probstk (1007), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2007 Updated: Jan 15, 2009500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear, deep copper with an orange-tan head
Aroma: Marmalade on rye bread – lots of deep grapefruity, citrusy hops with some piney notes, lots of caramel, toffee and dark rye bread crust; some dark dried fruits and warm spices come through as it warms; delicious.
Palate: Medium-full body, medium but somewhat sharp and fine effervescence.
Flav.: Much like the nose – plenty of juicy, grapefruit/pine hops, dark rye bread crust, burnt sugar, some caramel/toffee; some warm spices, dried fruits and ginger as it warms; a little off-dry with a solid bitter finish.
Lovely stuff.
Tasted again Nov. 06/08.
500 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 2008 “edition”.
App.: Clear deep copper with a fair tight tan head.
Aroma: Lots of fruits – cherries, tree fruits, dried fruits, molasses, licorice, quite sweet, brown sugar, a little alcohol, a touch of wood.
Palate: Medium+ body, soft carbonation, smooth.
Flav.: More brown sugar, deep caramel and toffee and less fruit than the nose, still some molasses and slightly minty herbal notes, a bit of earthy hops; a little sweet with some bitterness; leaves a light burnt sugar finish.
Still nice stuff. DownsouthGav (602), Greater London, England Sep 30, 2007 Pours a bold brown brew with a hardy white head. Aroma is strong of fruit and alcohol. Taste is smooth, some malt and hops are balanced finely. A very good beer from one of my favourite brewers. jps56 (5), USA does not count Sep 28, 2007 Drinking it as I write. Pours darker than expected: a wonderful deep russet, with a thin yet resilient milky head. Fruit and spice aroma, subtle caramel notes. Finishes with just enough bitterness. Great balance throughout. Carlus12 (361), London, Greater London, England Sep 28, 2007 Bottle. Pours deep brown with beige head. Aroma is fruit / spice / chocolate also malt and goldings too. Taste is a little on the thin side, it gives dates / hops / caramel leading to a smooth and balanced finish. A great beer. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Sep 27, 2007 A very refreshing and crisp ale, found it at BevMo. Pours deep amber-red color with a miniature beige head, very fizzy. Warming alcohol in the aroma with sugars and pale malts. Mild fruit nose on the flavor, some plum and raisin but mostly sweet malt, cinnamon and caramel. Finishes dry with plenty of carbonation on the palate. Not bad!
