Bobsy (194), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 19, 2007 Updated: Nov 5, 2007Bottle conditioned and courtesy of the LCBO. This is what bottled beer is supposed to be like! Aroma is full of spices and rich fruits, and the lovely red body packs a whole lots of hops and dates. An excellent beer! ElGaucho56 (386), USA Sep 19, 2007 Probably one of the tastiest aromas ever: port, spiced rum, dark fruits with malts showing slimly underneath; pours a nice shade of ruby, slight off white head that slims down to a fine sheen and lengthy lacing. Only place this one misses is on the palate; seems a little too thin, and all the tasty aromas don’t quite translate on the tongue. Nicely hopped though, with a lengthy bitter finish. Similar to Moonraker, though not quite as untamed. Over all, a nice brew. VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 18, 2007 500 ml bottle - pours a gorgeous plum tone with a tight sticky off-white cap. Big bright Goldings aroma, along with a subtle spice and some dates. Very soft in the mouth - probably the closest a bottled product will ever come to cask-feel. Beautifully subtle flavours of brown sugar, fresh prunes and a dry, grassy, bitter hop finish that lasts for a long time. A touch of alcohol warms the back of the throat. A masterful concoction, and one that I want to drink lots of. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Sep 16, 2007 Updated: Mar 12, 2008500ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a reddish-copper color with an ample tan head that has plenty of lacing and fades slowly. Aroma is moderate in strength and illuminates raisins, malts, almonds, anise and toffee. Flavor pretty much mirrors the aroma. Mouthfeel is a touch thin up front but rounds out to a nice satisfying fullness, the carbonation is light but adequate. Finish is dry and earthy with just a touch of hops and some lingering caramel sweetness. Overall this is a superbly crafted beer. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 16, 2007 Bottle. Dark amber body, really nice off-white head, malt and Goldings in the nose. NICELY balanced caramel notes, herbal earthy hops. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA Sep 11, 2007 2/15/05. 500ml. Reddish brown clear with large tan head. Toffee malty aroma. Flavor bitter smokiness with a very thick vinous palate poorly balance. Not my favorite Fullers. not enough hop balance. greig (169), Hamilton, New Zealand Sep 11, 2007 A great big fruitcake of a beer. One of my all time favourites. Looks great in the glass, leaving nice lacing as it drains (all too quickly). A fruity aroma invites a taste, which brings toffee, coffee, raisins, and flavourful earthy hops. The beer won’t let you forget it either, with a long lingering bitter finish, and a whiff of smoke right at the end. MarkBarnes (264), Waterville, New York, USA Sep 7, 2007 Sept. 7, 2007; sampled in an English pint. First tasting, on the heels of a Fullers ESB. More full-bodied & rich than the ESB; magnificent dark-amber color and pronounced head. Fruity, spicy & sweet aroma/flavor. This excellent English Strong Ale stands in contrast to the much-hoppier American Strong Ales. Very, very good -- but I still like the ESB better.
