Gethinbeer (995), Nova Scotia, Canada Apr 1, 2007 From bottle. Very rich, fruity aroma of plums. Slightly liquor aroma. Great clear amber colour with an off white head. Rich ale, has plenty of flavour with a rich finish. A little to rich I thought but enjoyed it in the end. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Apr 1, 2007 Nice head and dark amber color. There is a lot of floral, fruity and malty notes and the bitterness is spot on in this great, almost slightly vinous beer. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Mar 30, 2007 Lots of caramel malt in the aroma.Pours a brownish red with a medium off white/tan head.Lots of caramel and some roasted malt stands out in the flavor.Medium to full mouthfeel with a big caramel malt finish. Slayer85 (582), Firenze, Italy Mar 30, 2007 Bottled. A clear dark amber beer with a medium head. The aroma is fruity with a hint of roast. The flavour has notes of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium body, very drinkable, it ends on a good and long bitterness. Very balanced, one of the better examples of this style. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2007 1pt bottle. Aroma: Rich caramel, Sweet maltiness with some grainy/biscuity notes, raisins, earthy and resin hops. Appearance: Reddish amber in color and clear. Khaki head was full and creamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Strong caramel, raisins, chocolate, grainy maltiness, earthy/resin/floral hops. Starts sweet but finishes with a nice hop flavor. Well balanced. Palate: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Really nice beer. Caramel flavor was great, and the beer was very well balanced. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 18, 2007 Pours a clear amber color with a soapy off-white head. Malty aroma with caramel present. Taste is sweet upfront (caramel) with a nice hoppy ending. Well-balanced and clean. Super beer! Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Mar 10, 2007 After consuming the Cropton’s, this was a welcome reminder of just how good an English Strong Ale can be. Aroma of caramel. Flavor is a match, but it is a wonderfully deep, exotic, lush, rich caramel, with a faint note of fudge ripple running through it. A bit of bitterness on the finish dries things out nicely, keeping it from getting cloying. Really a great beer. milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Mar 9, 2007 Updated: Mar 13, 2007Starts sweet, but nice lingering hop bitterness. Complex flavors. Rich amber color. Best British brew I’ve tried so far.
