Stunning appearance, deep deep copper with a pretty little whiteish head. Aroma is fruity and spicy (like a pudding), with some mild yeastiness. The beer is so complex, with amazing balance, great full palate of chocolate, caramel, spices and the trademark goldings. Wow, this is so good. The finish drives home a little more hoppiness, and a soft bit of chocolate bitterness to think about. Truly wonderfull.

Bottle from Sainsburys Kidlington 18-05-06. Dark amber in colour, with a small head. the main component I noticed in the aroma was a wonderful maltiness, tasts was wonderful, complex and deeply satisfying with rich fruitiness and malt vying for attention. A superb beer that I had not had for some time and had forgotten how good it was yummy.

Very good looking, a dark, cloudy amber and a small tan head. Fruity with some raisins and plum, a good malt flavor. Very free of any off-flavored elements and well balanced. Great beer! I’ll certainly buy it again. And I tasted it 6 months after ’best by’ date... I need to start checking these things before I buy them.

Very nice appearance, red w/ a murky brown middle, tan head. Caramel is in full effect in the nose. Not thick, but bubbly. Has some raisins maybe at the beginning. A nice consistent graininess flavor throughout. Really a nice ale.

The beer was 17 months past date. Dark amber color, no ruby hints. The aroma was malty, but perhaps a bit dusty. It’s heading towards Old Peculier, but lacks the plummy notes. Small bubbles bite; toasty malty finish. Nice level of hoppy bitterness. If memory serves, this is a bit smoother than some, so the extra months may have mellowed it somewhat. Spice notes arrived half through the glass. Always a pleasure.

Bottle - Deep amber color with thick lingering light tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Taste is less malty with some spicy hops bite. Thinner mouthfeel with somewhat bitter hoppy aftertaste that’s just right. Overall an excellent strong ale that’s not too overpowering. Very smooth......I had to resist drinking this one too quickly.
